I spoke with the tournament director today. They currently have 37 entries registered for this tourny. Plenty of room for all!

Come check it out!

Also spoke to the TD tonight. She said they will NOT be re-oiling. They plan on using a 45-48 ft crowned pattern with very high volume. She also said if they get 100 entries, they are putting 5 on a pair, and she plans on each game taking 1/2 hour. This would make the tournament last until 4pm January 2nd as advertised on the flyer. I am guessing (hoping) with less than 100 entries they will spread people out, and be done earlier. As of tonight, there are 37 paid entries, but many more have called in without payment (not included in the 37).

LOL...wow thanks I'll stay at home.  So you put something out that is SO long everyone has to play in the middle of the lane with SUPER aggressive equipment.  This will cause the middle to DISAPPEAR quickly, and by game 10 the lanes will be a quagmire.  To get the tournament over quickly and make the playable the whole time you put down something med to short that forces people to the outside with equipment that isn't sanded to 360.  This gives everyone a LOT of room to move, and the weaker shells being used keep the oil on the lane longer.

I wish people who ran bowling centers had a clue about how to do lanes....more oil further down the lane doesn't mean it will last longer.  It's the league hack mentality....anyone ever see the pros after 5 games on the Shark?  Have fun playing a fade from 6th arrow and leaving the 5/7 split once a game for the last 15 games.

Russell,

I informed the TD of this issue when she told me the pattern. Her logic is there are many lower average bowlers bowling (who think more oil means move right), so she figures they will all start further right. If they put a short pattern out many inexperienced bowlers would move left due to all the friction (that place hooks a ton already). Regardless, I think 30 games is too much without a re-oil. I asked her why she is not re-oiling and they said it would waste 45 mins. I figure that re-oiling is worth it to save everyone from lofting the ball over the left cap for the last 10 games. I'm really not sure what pattern you could put out that would last 30 games without becoming ridiuclous.

I think its amazing how all you great bowlers are worried about the shot.  Just bowl if your gonna bowl.

Probably not bowling. Just putting info out there for all those who were thinking about bowling. There have just been alot of questions regarding this tournament and I wanted to clear them up since I live near the bowling center.

I'm going to assume you don't have a lot of experience bowling in marathon formats.  Go bowl in a few and you'll learn the elements that give lefties the edge.  You realize when tournaments aren't set up just right that they will run away and hide.  The pattern has to be set up to where it stays playable on both sides...if not the lefties get the edge.

I would agree with the TD's logic around peope starting further right, but I think the lanes will still become a quagmire after 5 games.  People will be using stuff sanded to 360 and the heads will be fried with no backend.  I'm not worried about bowling on that as much as I am what the lefties will have during that time.

I won a US Open qualifier by 120 pins 4 years ago bowling on something very similar.  They got incredibly unplayable after 4 games, and I was the only person to finish plus in the field....If a quality lefty had been there they would have beat me by 200.  The fresh wasn't bad...but they broke down horribly.

Wow, 30 games without redressing the lanes? I hope everyone has some Motrin in their bag for this one.

This should finish up this afternoon.  Hopefully someone will still have the strength to report on the results!

They finished up at 8am this morning. 40 entries, a few dropped out later on to make for a slightly faster pace. The lanes did not get too bad for the right handers due to the lower number of entries. David Knight Jr. won the tournament (lefty), but the remainder of the top 5 were right handers.

The winner won by over 300 pins. Apparently he averaged over 230, and shot several 260+ games.

That's incredible.  You could put out my favorite shot and re-oil every few games to keep it fresh and I doubt I'd average 230 for 30 games.  Stamina and performance.  Congratulations to the winner/survivor.

I did not bowl the event but I heard Kegel contacted the center last week or so and was going to assist on putting out a fair shot and that would accommodate the 30 games.

Was 30 games really accomplished in 12 hours?
