15 Game Marathon Sunday night 1/16 Newport News, VA
« on: January 11, 2011, 01:17:35 PM »
I just came across this website.  I live like an hour from here and saw this on bowling300.com.  I obtained more info:

where: Classic Lanes, Newport News, VA

when: Sunday Jan 16, check-in: 11:00 PM, starts at midnight, will end around 7:00-8:00 am on Monday

$1,000 guaranteed for scratch and $500 gauranteed for handicap

Payout 1:6

Cost: $100 or $150 if you enter both divisions

handicap is 90% of 230, you must show proof of previous years avg or current avg, use whatever is higher im guessing.

Format: bowl 15 games over 15 pair with no breaks. No roll off.  I called the tournament director and he said there will be a 40 ft kegel pattern. I didnt get many other details.  This will be their first year running this tournament.  There will be brackets, doubles, high game pots, etc.

maybe someone can add more details...

Mike

Interesting.  Who the heck is going to be able to bowl a tournament that ends Monday morning?  I doubt too many people have MLK day off.

Who won this event? Cashers? Scores? I was unable to bowl this event... How was the turnout?

There were only about 25 entries for the scratch division. Scores were pretty high, I think it took around +330 to cash.

I live in the Hampton Roads area, and Pinboys at the Beach usually runs a 12 game marathon on Sunday nights when Monday is a federal holiday.  There is usually a pretty good turnout for them, but they are cheaper in price - 55 for the 12 games and they do high game, brackets, and breakfast.

There must not have been much publicity about it unless you bowl at that house, because I didn't hear about it nor did any of my friends because we were looking for a marathon to bowl in.

Buffalo,

Could you post on here if/when the next 12 game marathon is at Pinboys? Possibly could get a car of guys coming from noVA if it is worth the time/money. Thanks.
