The Amateur Bowlers Tour (ABT) Classic Division was founded in September 1977 to give average bowlers, 189 and under, the opportunity to compete against bowlers of their own ability on a handicap basis for guaranteed prize money.  Since then, the sport of bowling has enjoyed many technological advances in equipment and lane conditions that improved scoring dramatically.  The Amateur Bowlers Tour has recognized those changes; we in turn have also made changes to improve our organization and ensure that bowlers continue to have the fairest opportunity possible to compete.  The ABT now features two separate divisions: the Classic Division for bowlers with averages of 189 and under and the Master Division for bowlers with averages of 190 to 225.  Handicap for the Classic and Masters Division is calculated at 80% of the difference between a bowler’s tournament average and 225.  Both divisions carry guaranteed prizes in each event with one cash position paid for a minimum of every six entries.  The final cash position is never less than the entry fee for the event.

In November of 2007 the Amateur Bowlers Tour, Washington DC Branch reopened. Since that time tournaments have been conducted almost every weekend. Over 100 bowlers have joined this branch and shared in over $30,000 in cash and prizes in the Washington DC Metropolitan area alone (this is why we say this weekly tournament is the best kept secret in the NORTHEAST REGION).  Nationwide more than $225,000,000.00 has been paid out.

PRIZE MONEY: The Washington DC Branch of the Amateur Bowlers Tour GUARANTEES its prize money based on entries. First place for singles events will always be based on entries a minimum of $300.00 with a graduated prize fund schedule where as if the branch generates more entries the prize fund and first place are increased accordingly.  First place for Singles events will follow this breakdown: 3 to 29 entries - $350; 30 to 39 entries - $450; 40 to 59 entries - $500; 60 to 69 entries - $600; 70 to 79 entries -$700; 80 to 89 entries - $800; 90 to 99 entries - $900; 100 to 109 entries - $1,000. We also guaranteed each semifinalist will cash.  There will be special tournaments where first place will be guaranteed at larger amounts than those above.

NOTE:

1 in 6 bowlers will cash in all WDC events (unless otherwise noted)

NATIONALS:  Normally, twice a year the ABT holds a National tournament in Las Vegas where the first place prize for the Classic Division is $40,000.00 and the Masters $30,000.00.  In order to bowl in these events you must have at least ten (10) squads bowled in your branch in the previous twelve months prior to the cutoff date for the National event.

WDC BOWLER OF THE YEAR AWARD: There will be a Bowler of the Year award ($1,000 & Trophy) given to the bowler that earns the most money in the WDC ABT this year. This award is strictly based on dollars earned from the Washington DC (WDC) Tournament events and new memberships to the WDC branch only.  Details can be found at our website www.wdc.abtbowling.com   Click on the WDC BOWLER INFO TAB.

If it's the "best kept secret in the Northeast", do you think we might see a tournament in the ACTUAL Northeast?

Then maybe you should call yourself the tournament director of the NorthEast branch??

I'd expect a somewhat pompous response from a director who's trying to get entries into his tournament. Actually, as a league secretary and former tournament director, no I wouldn't..

Ok Joeyd it is quite apparent to me that you got up on the wrong side of bed today. All I did was post my tournament to folks who are interested to bowl in the NORTHEAST area which encompasses Maryland. I have followed the rules of this forum by posting in the appropriate area that includes where we have tournaments. If you would look in the Southwest Region you will also see a similar post because we frequently have tournaments in the Virginia area too. Your first reply to this post indicated that the "pompous" label that you so aptly labeled me should fall and stay at your feet. I felt that your response of the "ACTUAL" Northeast depicted that the only states that should be called Northeast is Conn and I guess the states that are near them. Well you are wrong and my reply of Maryland is in the Northeast was a statement of fact.

Trying to give me a title of Tournament Director of the Northeast Branch is a little silly when my title is listed as part of my signature which you missed again like you missed the fact that Maryland is part of the Northeast.

If you would have gone to the website you would have seen that there is a link to other Branches of ABT that may be near you (as Scott did or he may have known about ABT from other means). I am going to make a BIGGGG assumption that as a FORMER tournament director you advertised in various media just to get the news out about your tournament and sometimes the information came to folks who happened to be long distanced. Depending on the tournament, prize money, etc that person made a conscious decision to either attend or not attend. Something that I wished you have done: Attend or not attend.

It has been a beautiful Easter Sunday (just came back from 8 days in Mexico with my family last night and had a wonderful time) and I am now sitting down to respond to your response.  What a way to end the day. But you know Joeyd I am going to wish you well and I hope you receive everything good in your life. Take care and bowl well.

I just find it odd that you're using the NorthEast region as an example, when you're only in DC. Maybe I've got a somewhat biased view of where the Northeast is, but I didn't think it went further than New York/New Jersey area. Take the PBA regional program for example. You don't see many, if any, tournaments in Maryland/DC area.

Scotts pointed out (thank you, by the way) PA, NY, and NJ branches. I guess that's as far Northeast as I'd expect to see. I did catch your title in your signature, I don't miss things like that. Whether what you stated is fact or not might be a matter of opinion.

Truthfully Les, being that you are putting forth efforts to bring more tournament competition to the game, you are the last person I should be criticizing, and I do apologize for the pompous label. There are others that I have encountered that are doing far less for the game. The DC branch does seem a little less Northeast than most tournaments I've seen, but perhaps that leaves an opportunity for new branches a little further north..
