Insight on Vegas 'Megabuck' Tournaments Feb 1st through 10th...
« on: January 19, 2009, 02:28:57 PM »
Anybody have any pro's and con's between the 'Megabuck' tournaments in Vegas or preferences one which two are the best to bowl in?  I'm trying to iron out the logistics on which two would be the best to bowl in as bowling a 3rd tourament might be a bit too much.

I know the TAC form my previous experiences a few years ago always seemed to be a little disorganized and squads were often very late getting off.  I don't know if they have improved their organizational skills in the last couple of years or not.  I feel from a scoring perspective it's probably the easiest to cash in.

The Mini's have been very well run although the cashing ratio's were usually 1:10 or worse, but they seemed have changed a little for the better.  Of all the tournaments I seemed to enjoy bowling in this one the most, although it's the one that I had the hardest time cashing in usually because it used to be in the orleans, and I hated that low friction surface they have there combined with volumes of oil that the mini used to put out.

The High roller keeps changing the format.. not sure if it's good or bad anymore.  I liked the matchplay just for the shear spectacle of the matches, but that was in the days when it was at the Showboat.

I must admit I still hate the mind boggling confusing entries forms that insist on having (I think they all must have the same entry form graphics artist).

I've bowled a couple of TAC's, 10 or so Mini's and 13 or 14 high rollers over the years but haven't bowled any for the last 4 years or so due to injury and other obligations.  Now that I'm going back out I'm trying to get some feedback on others experiences that have bowled these in the last couple of years on the 'state of the union' so to speak.  I know some people believe there isn't as much value in these tournaments anymore and I agree as there isn't a life changing amount of possible winnings anymore but still something to bowl for.  Maybe some people can weigh in on that thought as well i.e. money is down, not as many 'donaters', patterns used, style biases etc.

-Thanks

Chris,

I travel out there every year at this time and try to bowl all 3 and maybe even the Boot Hill.  I would have to agree with you regarding the TAT, as I've been fortunate enough to cash each year except the first year I bowled.

The TAT has been much better in their organization and seem to run pretty smooth now in my opinion.

The High-Roller seems to offer the best return from a daily standpoint as you could win $1000 every day if lucky enough.  The only drawback with the HR is that the squads can be pretty expensive if you are only close.  The nice thing is that they made it 2 games which eliminates potentially getting stuck on the harder lanes in the house depending on if the low or the high side is scoring that day.

The Mini offered up a Marathon Entry which gives you a great bargain for your money.

It's really up to you and how much you can afford and time.  I usually have a spreadsheet of all the tournies and squads mapped out prior to going so I know what I can make and can't.

See you there and good luck.

    Chris,

I usually go out in July for these tournaments.  The TAT to me is the best investment just because the competition isn't quite as high as the others.  The Mini this July ran the Kegel Patterns and with 10-12 guys from my division, usually only 1 guy was being taken which makes it kinda rough.  The Roller like you said changes the format every year so its hard to tell with that one anymore.  The TAT also has the marathon entry as well and they seem to give away lots of products during the event, just last year I got shoes, 2 balls, and an entry into the Ebonite shootout.  This is just my opinion of course but from a financial standpoint (and thats what I bowl for), to me the TAT is the best investment.  Just my .02!
