Bowling in Bethesda, MD recommendations?
« on: April 08, 2008, 02:29:43 AM »
I am going to be in Bethesda, MD for a conference from April 12th to the 16th and have a free night on Monday the 14th and was looking for recommendations for a good bowling alley in or around the Hyatt Regency Bethesda, which is on Wisconsin Ave.  It is my understanding that the Metro is right near the hotel, so that would be preferable as to driving, but I will have a vehicle and could drive if there is a better center elsewhere.  I don't want to drive too far, but 15 to 20 minutes would not be unreasonable to me.  Also any eatery recommendations are welcome as well.

Thank you for any information/recommendations

Only one around Bethesda proper is a place that has cosmic only and is a waste of time.  Up route 355 is a couple of real centers but they all have MOnday night leagues.

Thanks Phoneman...I was afraid of that...my league night is Monday's, so I will miss league, but wanted to try and get in some practice at a new house, but do not want to waste a good practice opportunity.  Do the real centers up 355 use all the lanes in the house for leagues?  Ours has 4 available for open bowling while our league bowls...

Most centers in the Washington area do not have any thing open up for open play until after the leagues are done at 9:30

I bowl league at Bowl America Gaithersburg and sometimes sub at AMF Shady Grove which is also in Gaithersburg.  You should be able to get a sub spot on Monday's @ Clopper or depending what time you get up to Gaithersburg you can practice up util 5:00pm.  Good luck.

As Phoneman has already told you, there is only one bowling alley in the Bethesda area-"Strikehouse"- which caters more towards entertainment and recreational cosmic bowling. There is also a brand new house downtown where a lot of the celebs like to hang out.(Gilbert Arenas, members of state, etc) It is located on the same block, or very near the Verizon center. I am told that games are very expensive down there, like $7.50 per game, to bowl.

Everything else close to where you are staying is in Gaithersburg, as mentioned by JUP. Good luck. Hope you enjoy your stay, nonetheless.

Some days you're the bug....some days you're the windshield...that's bowling!

The place downtown is called "Lucky Strikes Lanes"  It is also another entertainment type center.  You could take the Metro down there but make sure there is not a game going on either basketball or Hockey if there is avoid this area unless you are going to the game.
