bowling centers in NJ
« on: March 12, 2007, 01:00:34 PM »
What's happening to all the bowling centers in NJ, closing left and right, and where did the bowlers from these centers go to?

For example:
Roosevelt lanes (CLOSED)
Garden State (CLOSED)
Belle Aire (CLOSED)
Parkway (CLOSED)
Strike and Spare (RUMORED TO BE CLOSING)
Carolier (RUMORED TO BE CLOSING)
thats over 200 LANES. And I may have missed some.
All these centers had VERY GOOD PRO SHOPS where did they go?

I'VE BEEN OUT OF THE AREA FOR ABOUT 1 YEAR AND I CAME BACK TO THIS!!!!!

Where did the rumor of Carolier closing come from?  Roosevelt closed because they were leasing the land and they were bought out for potential Condos.  I believe the same thing happened with Garden State.  These houses weren't in the best neighborhoods.  With the increasing prices of the industry today, I don't think you were going to find too many people going to these locations and spending a minimum of $4.00 a game for beat up, outdated equipment.

The Pro Shop from Roosevelt moved over to Hudson Lanes, about 2 miles down the road.

That started 2+ years ago. It died more than a year ago.
The rumor was the high end was going to be sold in order to be made into another strip mall. I kind of doubt that Lee Livingston, the owner, woudl allow that to happen. In fact, I thought I had heard at one point (2 years ago) that he was considering ending the lease to Brunswick (they are leasing the property from him now.) and re-taking ownership of Carolier Lanes. It is now Brunswick Zone at Carolier. In any case, he didn't take it back. Brunswick is still running it.
