I 2nd that Mr. Straighball.

You might want to re-think March 21. There is an 8 gamer at Brunswick Blue Hen that night at 11pm that quite a few people from the area are going to. Just a thought.

I will be there for the one in April.

It's on!  Winner-take-all high game pot for the first game.  First and second place paid the next game.

Keith,

Couple questions:

1) After the 2 games does everyone make it to the elimination round or do you have a cut ratio?

2) Prize Ratio 1:8 !?  Can you explain why it is so high, my first assumption is to be able to pay a large 1st place prize.

Thanks.

    Stephen,

    1) After the two qualifying games, the field is cut to a "bracket multiple" (16, 32, 64 etc.).  In the case of the first tournament, the field was cut to 16 for single elimination match play.

    2) I spoke to the tournament organizer and I will do my best to accurately convey his thoughts.  Based on the nominal entry fee and number of entries, he wants to still have good payouts for the winners.  If the number of entries increase for future tournaments, the prize ratio could reduce to 1 in 4.

This is a new undertaking for him and he is open to hearing ideas that could make the tournament better.

I hope you can make it to the next tournament on April 4th and bring some friends.

    Take care,
    Keith

When there's no guaranteed pay out it's hard to set a ratio number.  The sweeper we have here in Michigan started out where we would get around 25-30 guys and it was paying 1:7 as only the final 4 got paid.

Now we are getting 40 + so the pay out is now 1:10.  It does kind of suck, but at least if you make it far, you'll get a lot more than you put in.

Just curious are they going to change it to a 3 game qualifying block so they can run brackets?  The high game were the only side action that we had last week and since its only 2 games, its gonna make it harder to get more guys to participate.

    Mike,

The problem is that the house wants the tournament to finish by a certain time (not sure what the time limit is) so that they can use the lanes for rock-n-bowl (or whatever they happen to call it).  That is why the qualifier is only two games and doesn't move pairs.

I do know that they are looking at running two game brackets. For those not familiar, there would be 9 participants in each bracket.  The first game would have 3 match-ups of 3 bowlers (beat two bowlers instead of one). The winner of each 3 bowler grouping moves on to the second game (cash round). The final three are paid based on second game score. Payouts for a $5 entry would probably be $25, $10, and $5.

    Stephen,

In this case, i see where the ratio of 1:8 comes from. Because its a bracket format, one has to look at paying folks in powers of 2, in other words paying just 1st and 2nd, or the top 4 (since 3rd and 4th lost at the same time), or the top 8 (since 3rd 4th lost at the same time, and 5,6,7, and 8 all lost at the same time). If you look at the entries needed to get to the cut number (ie you need between 16 and 31 entries to cut to the top 16, between 32 and 63 entries to cut to the top 32), then the corresponding ratio to pay in power of 2 is actually 1:8. For example, for 16 entries, everyone would make the cut into the 16-person bracket, and you would pay the top 2. You could pay the top 4, but now your ratio is 1:4 and like was stated, with minimal entry fee and no added cash, its hard to pay 1:4. How many tournaments do you play in that have a 1:4 without having money added to the prize fund?
