Jeff,
Do you plan to do a strip only run and then a strip and oil run or a strip and oil run only?  IMO if you only do a strip and oil run you will have a lot of the first pattern left on the lanes which could make the second pattern a bit funky in terms of how it is intended to play.

I am not doing anything. LOL

I know what you are getting at, "Lane Memory". Truth be told, this is a factor at any non-house shot league or tournament as the natural characteristics of the house shot will come to the surface eventually.

jeff.....Just curious as to why you chose 2 patterns of the same length that will play fairly similar in that center as opposed to having a longer and a shorter pattern that would/may play differently and make/may make the players play differently between the 2 blocks.

From my experience, at first they might play close to the same...but the USBC open pattern will quickly show its azz after the 1st or second game with major carrydown.  I have bowled every pattern @ Ft. Meade and the USBC pattern gave me the most drastic carrydown of them all.

wabullets, you're correct, they might just turn out to play the same. If it was advertised as a 36' and 40' pattern, would that make it a better choice in your mind? At Opposites Attract last year, the scores weren't to high or to low but some still aren't satisfied. Folks are already trying to interject their 2¢ in on what should be on the lanes in a month. Have we forgot how to show up and compete?

Can anyone remember how we survived without knowing the pattern and having directions telling us the kind of ball, layout and target to use? What if I hadn't announced the patterns, would we have thought to have this conversation? Probably not but we would have an inbox stuffed with emails reading, "what's the shot?"

people wanna know the shot because they don't want to have to bring 15 balls to the tournament with them.  Knowing the shot, most will already know what will work and thus simplifying the bag.

As for me, I'm bringing the whole garage, something has to work and by having all the equipment, the only excuse i have is myself.

I think you should have went with out posting the patterns. After all, that was you new thing for this year......not telling the patterns. Though you are right, you would probably get quizzed to no end about what the pattern would be.....just seems odd to have a 2 pattern tournament with 2 patterns that are not all that much different..........especially on the left at Ft. Meade. Not that I am going to complain about that (though others may).

As my man WKR once said to me, "If you aren't scoring and haven't tried every ball you own, then you have no one to blame but yourself!"

Moral of the story, simplify your bag so that you can roll or carry your arsenal in with you. I need to do a 2 ball tournament, that would be fun to watch, especially all of the folks who NEED a plastic ball. HMMMMMMMM

Personally I think people telling the patterns have hurt the local tournaments.  You tell your house guys its a tough pattern they don't bowl.  Tell your "tournament" bowlers its a house shot and they don't bowl.  There are very few guys like myself that really don't care what you put down, you get 15 mins to find a look, simple as that.  Show up and Shoe up!
