Green Mountain Open This Weekend!!!!
« on: March 14, 2007, 11:48:11 AM »
Anyone else on ballreviews going to the Green Mountain Open in Rutland, VT this weekend or one of the upcoming weekends?  I have a team of guys going up Friday night and staying through Sunday.  This is a good tournament with great payouts, paying in both the scratch and handicap divisions.  Hope to see some of my fellow ballreviews members out there.  If you are going, send me a p.m. and I will try to respond ASAP.  For more info on the tourney go to www.rutlandbowlerama.com and follow the links to the tournament page.  Good luck to everyone going!!!

A large group from our area went up there ~2 weeks ago.  Shots was different from what I remembered and depending on the day / who you follow it was either more open or tight down lane.

Goof,
How did the shot seem on the left side? I was curious because when I went there a few years ago I remember having to play between 3rd-4th arrow bellying out to ten, but not past eight.  Did it seem similar to that this year from any of the lefties you saw, or was the line outside of that?  Just curious, thanks

Im going up for singles and doubles this year on the 31st, didnt have enough interest to put a team together.  The shot was pretty dry last year least for my squad, guy on the pair next to us tossed a 300, I ended up cashing enough to get my $$ back which is always nice.

Its a nice tourney, Im looking forward to it, let us know how the shot is when you get back.

JD, I am going to post about the tourney next week when I get back and thanks for the input.  I will try to give a report about how both sides of the lane looked so anyone going after me will hopefully light it up when they get out there, good luck to all!!

RE: Leftside...

The left side all depends on how you like to attack a pattern.  Some of the lefties in the group (60 total in the group) like to stay firm and play out.  The best look that I saw from our lefties was from one of the power strokers who utilized a small amount of swing out to about 8 or 7.

Saturday we were the first squad of the day.  On fresh you will need to control the change of direction the ball has coming off of the wet/dry line down lane.  We all saw some hang outside of 6-7 so most of use started in and tried to stay firm with the speed and up the back.  It really was moving around from pair to pair that got folks.  In general I found the pattern held up well and only on Sunday did I find myself having to move in and really open up my angles.  However, I never got any big string of strikes going and manage mid to high 6's for the weekend.  Few folks in the group are up in the top 10 for various things and last I checked our team was 3rd scratch...but it could've been a whole lot better if you got rid of a few 10 and 9 pins in game 3.

Concerning the left side up in Rutland, VT for the Green Mountain Open, I don't know if Goof is considering me as one of the lefties who had a good look (most of my sets were between low 6's and high 6's) but I thought the shot played around 7-8 at the breakpoint on the left. Sometimes you needed more surface and had to play a wider angle, sometimes when the shot broke down you had to move deeper and slowly belly the ball to that spot, other times you had to square up and play down and in around 9 board when the lanes transitioned.

My best sets were the first set of doubles (672) and the last set I bowled, the early afternoon team squad (693). Any more questions, feel free to PM me and good luck this coming weekend.

Actually Matt you where the lefty that I was thinking of...

...out of the group I got to watch you more than the others and though you had one of the more consistent reads of the lanes.  Ofcourse Mr. Gardner starting off with the front 9 or so bowling doubles with Tig was a good showing as well...I just didn't get to watch him much beyond that.

I said I would post when I got back, sorry it's a couple of days late.  I bowled four sets at Bowlerama and shot series of 604, 644, 655, 666.  Overall the shot was tight without much room to miss out to the ditch.  the best line(s)I found on the left side were playing higher ball speed up 10 swinging to about 6, or if you wanted to go in you could soften up the speed and play 20 to about 12.  If you missed with your speed or turn inside you would would pay a severe penalty, but the carry was better.  You could play it safe with the outside line, but there were new pins put in before the tournament (told to me by the lane-man) so the carry was not as good with the higher ball speed, but there was also less trouble to get into by playing it straight.  The lanes were only oiled once a day before the 8:30 A.M. squad, but the shot held up tremendously for both the lefties and the righties that I bowled with and saw bowl.  Carry was better on the fresh oil, but if you could move with the carrydown as the day progressed, you could find the hole all day long.
Overall I bowled o.k., I wish I had better carry, but that is the way bowling goes sometimes. I wish everyone well that is still going to the tournament this year, and if anyone on here is going to the Green Mountain Open next year, pm me ahead of time and maybe we can meet up at the tournament.  Good luck and good bowling!!!

Thanks for the review.  Sounds alot like last year.  I played a little swing from 12 out to 8 and did well, that 2 ball on each lane practice wasnt much fun though
