Mr. Straight Ball,

SuperHitMan don't bowl in our league! The Earl that was down last night would have Earl Anthony himself cussin!! LMAO  I really wish that I could bowl in your tourney, but I just don't have the cash.  I read a lot of the posts about why tournament attendance is down and thats it! I'm broke.  I love the game, I love the tough shots, BUT I can't afford it For me its all about having a good time, I can average 125 but still come out with a smile on my face.  Why? Because I love the game and learned something about my game each time I went out.  I used to love when Alex used to have the 4 gamers for like 25 bucks I think, I could muster that up easily.

I think that if there were more middle of the road entry tourneys there would be a greater turnout of the people that you are trying to get to come out to the tournaments.  A LA...Broke folk such as myself or people that are tired of donating or think they aren't ready.  Only Bad thing is that the highly skilled and experienced bowlers like achappy or Mike L won't even lace up their shoes for the low cash payouts.  Which defeats the purpose, in my mind, of bowling in a tournament.  To bowl against the best, and also to learn from the best. You can't do either if they aren't there.

But maybe a low entry tournament could bring the better and experienced bowlers out to get in a lot more side action.

Not that I need to speak for Mike......but the guy comes on here promoting tournaments that have a $25 entry fee and pay 1 in 3.......you arent going to get a much lower cash pay out then that........if he is pimping them, I am sure he is playing them.

That comment wasn't meant to be negative or to call out Mike L nor achappy. I just used them as 2 examples because I have seen them post on low tournament turn outs and also have seen first hand their ability to cash in high stakes tournaments.  I was off base by saying that they wouldn't bowl in low entry/low payout tournaments, rather I should have stated that a lot of bowlers of their caliber don't usually bowl in the low pay out tournaments.  I do apologize if I came off stating something negative about either guy.

Mike L does a great job pushing other tournaments that have low entry fees.  I do intend on bowling in some in the very near future.

No offense taken.  I try promoting tournaments that I am going to participate in to hopefully get more entries.  Its sad that more tournament directors themselves (exclude jeff and tony) won't come on here and promote their own tournaments but I try and do it for them, but thats really for my own benefit.  For example I bowled at Nellie Fox this week and the first few times I bowled they had 18 total brackets and probably 30 guys.  I posted it on here and they had 40 brackets and 52 players and most of the guys saw it on here so this is a great chance for tournaments to get around the area because very few actually promote them anymore which is why alot of them are struggling with entries.

To add to Durst's post...

Yesterday, we had 34 entries for the 8 gamer and quite a few were first timers which is encouraging as we go forward. Latise & I just want to thank everyone who came out and played.

To help folks better understand Kegel's Rt.66 pattern, it's a 45ft pattern that dictates that all bowlers stay closer to the pocket. The groove of the pattern is between the 3rd and 2nd arrow. Ft Meade has the down the lane locaters, so the idea was to not throw the ball right of 11 at the breakpoint which was the outside locater. And because the pattern is flat, when you play outside of the 2nd arrow, it becomes tougher to score.

At one point, the right handers were looking worried as 3 left hander out of 4 were all in the top 6. I’ll give the lefties credit, they weren’t hell bent on playing up 5 and I could see why they were sitting 1, 2 & 4 in the standings at the halfway point. Once enough right handers figured out to move in between 10 & 15 the pattern started to get a groove and that’s when we saw the scoring pace jump up.

40 Boards is going to try and continue to offer a variety of patterns as we have had down house shots, modified patterns, PBAx patterns and a Kegel pattern so far in the ’08-’09 season We’ll announce February’s location shortly!

34 entries – paid out $5,130 in prize money, pots, survivals & 67 brackets
1. 1,818 - 227.25 - Joe Tremper
2. 1,806 - 225.75 - Chhoeun To
3. 1,786 - 223.25 - Terry Wiley
4. 1,778 - 222.25 - Billy Asbury
5. 1,770 - 221.25 - Don Slebodnik
6. 1,738 - 217.25 - Keni Lowe Jr.

Honors
299 Joe Tremper – Roto Grip Cell Pearl
290 Don Slebodnik – Storm Virtual Gravity
289 Chhoeun To – Storm Dimension
279 Terry Wiley – Storm Gravity Shift

Jeff,

Sadly enough I figured out where to play on that condition after game 3.  But I've learned a valuable lesson that will/could/should help me in the future.  I'm going to be printing out all the Kegel Patterns and have them in my bag for situations such as this one.

You announced before practice started what the pattern was and to me, that meant absolutely 0 because I didn't even know what it was, let alone how to play it.

Even watching others bowl, didn't really help because alot of players didn't seem to know either, as scores showed.

I think this was one of the best tournament shots I've bowled on simply because you had to throw good shots.

Hopefully the tournament scheduling won't conflict with the High Roller or the Masters in February as I look forward to bowling yours and Tony's tournaments.

Stephen, thanks for the compliment on the pattern. Announcing the pattern on the spot accomplished exactly what you commented on. It left the majority of the field guessing except those that bowled Venus & Mars Mixed Doubles in Jersey this past summer. It was interesting watching how folks were attacking the pattern. It placed some serious emphasis on the 10 minutes of warm-up as folks had to use the time to "read the lanes". It reminded me that I need to pay better attention to what my ball(s) are seeing on the lane too.

You could tell folks were lining up as each game passed as the scoring pace jumped up! Kegel Challenge series patterns are very playable and more importantly score-able which was demonstrated by the 299 (lefty) and 290 (righty) we are submitting to USBC.
