Pa State Bowling Tournament
« on: February 09, 2011, 02:56:56 AM »
We are heading to the state tournament in May. We haven't been to Altoona in a long time and I was wondering if anybody could give me some info on some places to maybe get a bite to eat and have a few drinks.

 Ehhh.. There's probably a 7 - 11 nearby for a hot dog & coke!

Altoona has changed a lot. There's a lot to choose from food wise. Fast food naturally, also Red Lobster, Olive Garden, a Hooter's (yes, really) a real nice Mexican restaurant and a real nice Greek restaurant. Hotel wise there is a Holiday Inn Express, Super 8, a Hampton Inn across the street from Holiday Bowl and a Courtyard at the Altoona Convention Center. If you like baseball while you're here the Double A affiliate is close by. Hope that helps!

Team house- Plesant Valley-played closer to a house shot, but the approaches were extra tacky and some of the seams for the syn approaches wer coming apart and making sliding a little more difficult shooting for corner pins are playing deep... The minors event house had wooden approaches and were a little better for consistant sliding. I thought the scores were lower overall at the minor house, but my friend rolled a 300 the last game of doubles. I overall had 2209 for scratch totals, I had 4 splits and 3 missed 7-pins the whole weekend.. I just had the right stuff with me... I used an over the label Theory for the minor house and a Rising Star with a 60x5x70 pin under and a 55x4 1/2 x 60 Infinite Theory at the team event center. if you got it outside too early it HOOKED BIG at both centers, but play up at it, well, it too flat and I saw and left alot of corner pins...Now FOOD-- Jefro's across from the Ramada In was great-- great service and great food. Please call ahead... They were swamped the whole time we were there... The Ramada has a nice bar and nice clean rooms... Good luck to everyone...
