Heading there first weekend in May.  Several years ago, I bowled league at Eastway lanes.  At that time (and I'm assuming still today), the place was absolutely top notch.  Everything was cleaned and wiped down every evening prior to closing up, lanes were very well maintained.  Truly a great place.  From my memory, the house shot there always shaded towards the heavier oil.  AMF synthetics.  Larger house (thinking 46 lanes) sufficient room behind the lanes for equipment and a few people.  There's a bar inside the house.. and a top-notch proshop.  Chuck was/is one of the best at fitting, laying out, and drilling.  The other house (Rolling Meadows), I have only bowled in once and that was many years ago during a jr bowling tournament.  Smaller than Eastway... at the time I believe it had wood lanes (again many years ago).. but seemed to be a nice house as well.

There is a new slots casino right off from I-90 (closer to Eastway lanes).. lots of good bars downtown.. Calamari's, Docksiders, Rum Runners...

For the golfers, about 15-20 mi. away is the Peek-n-Peak Resort.. Nationwide tour has a stop there.. can play the upper course for $79 w/ cart through the end of May!

Should be a fun weekend

I'm going up the same weekend, sheppy, with 6 teams from the Kitanning Assoc. (Leechburg/Ford City area). Pretty sure we're bowling singles/doubles at Rolling Meadows on Saturday, and Team at Eastway on Sunday. Love Eastway Lanes, but this will be the first time I've been at Rolling Meadows I think. Always a good time in Erie, I'm looking forward to it.

Oh, by the way, Eastway is a nice house, 72 lanes I believe, wood approaches and synthetic lanes. When you walk in they have a bench and you must remove your shoes. You can put your bowling shoes on right then or you can walk around in your socks, big pro shop and a nice bar with some pretty good food. Been there six times, last time in 2005 for a Moose bowling tourney.

Team events at Rolling Meadows, singles/doubles at Eastway, I stand corrected. I've heard that Rolling Meadows is an older house with all wood approaches and lanes with flying backends to start and a lot of carrydown to finish, which is about the same as where I bowl the majority of my leagues. I'll see you there.

Ahh I think we bowl 330 PM Saturday and I think around noon on sunday. S&D first.

To the guy that works at the other one. we have a fairly decent decsription of conditions from Strapper, at eastway. At least an idea for the other house (yours) any truth to that rumor??

Just had one of our "better" bowlers come back from bowling the first weekend.  He has a decent amount of speed and loft and almost never has a problem getting the ball down the lane... he said that the lanes were really dry and even HE was having trouble keeping the ball on the lane.  I bowl league with him tonight, so I'll get a chance to talk to him a little more, but my guess is that you had better pack something mild or be comfortable lofting the gutters...

Strapper: funny you should write that. I just had a report from a guy from Mifflinburg that went come in. He stated he could not get the ball to move..220+ average at John Wilcox, guy that told me says he can really turn it if he has to. BUT he had to go outside 10 to get anything to move. Wow. guess its pack it all....

Hey Buzz,

Your squads have some good bowlers in them.  Kid from near Beaver Pa will probably put up some HUGE numbers.  I know Eastway from bowling other tournaments there that the wall is usually 8 feet high with railroad tracks to the pocket.  Green Meadows is most of the time a little harder but not much.  I think we are going to some western bar saturday night to party let me know if interested.
