I have a 223 league average, ~175 nationals average. So just your average house bowler who needs area to score. I didn't go in with many expectations, and it was a good thing..lol.. I shot just over 1600 AE. Highlight of the weekend was not shooting under 500!
S/D house was flying backends from the start. I hate to see the guys who bowled 2nd shift on it. On fresh, it is tight, but you can develop a little miss room if you work it right. I got tired and lazy, otherwise would have had a decent doubles set. 540/565
Team house had much less overall movement. Shot felt the same, with dirty backends. That could have been because of the team we bowled with and their 1400 pins of handicap..lol But if you have 10 guys that can bowl, I think you can groove a decent shot here. Can develop some tug room if nothing else. Hungover, sore, and tired, shot 502. I bet I had 20-25 opens over the 9 games (including 2 10s, 8! 3-6-10s..lol...and a couple 6-10s...that there was really no excuse to miss). I didn't leave many splits, just had no concept of spare shooting and couldn't string strikes to make up for it
Of course the team we paired up with is now leading with 3560 or so. 2 guys throwing 20mph at the head pin. 1 2handing a 12lb plastic ball in house shoes. Definitely not sandbaggers, just a couple of guys who managed to be 20-30 pins over their average a game.
I had no issue with the shot, but definitely the lowest scores I have seen in the 15 years I have bowled states. Would have loved to bowl better, but what can you do. 220s were winning high game pots, and 170s-180s were making it through brackets.
Lengthy discussions were had by some with the tournament officials, and there are some good discussions going on now about it on the PSBA Facebook group.
https://www.facebook.com/groups/568839189833957/I imagine either they will announce ahead of time what they are doing shot-wise next year, or they will be walled up so bad you will lose brackets with 250s..
