Jimmy,
As a bowler that bowled every month when they use to draw entries and get over 100 brackets every tournament I think it was a mistake to change from sport patterns to pba patterns and entries have been down ever since. However I wil say all tournaments are down so not sure how much that had to do with it. Also I come from virginia and the 2nd Sunday of every month, licoln lanes in chambersburg has a tournament and that's closer and usually gets a good turnout so not sure how many guys would drive up and pass a tournamament to come up. They just had a 10 gamer with $1000 guaranteed last week and have a match play tournament on the 13th. You will probably get the baltimore guys, cavey, schaden, tremper etc but not sure how many guys from the hagerstown-chambersburg area and its only around an hour but don't think too many will pass a tournament to drive to another.
Just my thoughts

I have to agree with Mike L. on this one. Running two tournaments on the same day within 100 miles of each other will result in lower entries, for both tournaments. I remember a situation last year where there were 3 tournaments being run on the same day (Forest Hill, Winchester, and York). All 3 tournaments saw low entries (under 15 at each), even though they are fairly spead out geographically. If they had worked together and only run 1, I'm sure they could have drawn at least 40 entries. The only way you are going to attract 50+ entries at a tournament is to draw from the entire DC/Baltimore/NoVA/PA areas, since entries are down overall.
I would also like to see 8 games, instead of 6. That way, it makes it even more worth it for those driving from further away. One may ask, what's the difference between 2 games? Well, I have heard from many better bowlers in the area that their so-called "limit" for traveling further than 50 miles is at least 8 games. Also, you might be able to run 3 sets of brackets/survivor boards for those who want to gamble. I also feel that 8 games gives the bowlers a chance to come back, even with a poor game at the beginning.
But overall, looking forward to the tournaments.

IMO a 1 in 4 cash ratio draws more bowlers. Also, I would like to see something other than the top 5 going to step ladder finals. Instead, maybe go single game elimination. First bowls last or however you wanted to do it.

Jimmy,
After running some really successful and some not so great tournaments:
Stick to a certain weekend, stick to a start time, and stick to a certain series of patterns, like the KEGEL sport patterns or the International patterns from KEGEL, as you well know, you pick your lane surface, type of machine, and oil and cleaning combo and it shows you how the pattern will be like... I first started running my tournaments on the PBA patterns and the most I got entry wise was 22. The last 3 1/2 years I have been using the KEGEL patterns and the lowest I had was 19 plus me to make it an even field, ( when 3 tournaments were running at the same time), and high as 89... Don't expect alot of York County bowlers to attend other then our circle of friends we all know, you WILL get a TON more if you run longer formats like 6 games with top 6 or 8 in bracket style finals, or 8 or 10 marathons...Bowlers will pay $60-$65 if you put like $800 or higher on top and do 1/5 or 1/6 cashings with some incentives, like a ball drawing once in awhile or a 1/2 cost entry once you reach 40 entries at a tournament... I feel WE, as the tournament directors need to work together and make our tournaments the best around, Chambersburg area does a great thing of working together and even putting a flyer together that has all the tournament dates on them... Maybe include East Lincoln because they run their tournaments the 4th weekend of the month... Also would like to make it a possible combined series and do a Championship tournament where the winners from your tournaments and from mine bowl 6 games at North then go bowl 6 games at Suburban to crown a York County KEGEL champion.. Just some general ideas I have as a tournament director and tournament bowler.

Would love to bowl in this event, however I have not been able to find a start time. Sorry if I missed where it is posted. Since the entries are limited do we need to reserve a spot and if so how do we reserve a spot?
-
Apologies.. Start time would be a key piece of information :). Practice will begin at 9:30am. I expect a good turnout, but based on the tournaments I've been to the last few weeks, I don't believe 54 will happen. I just wanted to at least announce it just in case. If anyone would like to RSVP, just let me know your name and we can begin making a list. Just arrive within 10 minutes of start time in the event there would be a waiting list.
Also, we will decide on a pattern in the next day or two and post on here.
Thanks,
JP

I think its great that a tournament director took the time to post results eventhough it was kind of strange to append it to a post that was a couple of months old.
-
Hey Bill... I'm new to posting results and tournaments on here. Normally I'm just looking for tournaments. Should I create a new post for results? Also, should I create a new post for each event. I was planning on just using the same post and editing each time. Let me know your thoughts.
Thanks,
JP

I think you would get more views if you made a separate topic for results. I am serious about my compliments on posting results. Many TDs don't bother.
