Bowling Centers Near Reading PA
« on: May 08, 2006, 07:10:29 AM »
Question for anyone who bowls in the Reading PA Area. I have looked on the internet and found two houses listed near the Wyomissing Area in PA. They are AMF 801 Hiesters Ln. Reading, PA. and Berks Lanes 2190 Shillington Rd Sinking Springs, PA.
Does anyone bowl in either of these houses tournaments or leagues? I have a friend who will be moving to the area soon and is looking for a good house and league to join. Please reply here or message me. Also you can email me at fozzybear300@yahoo.com.

Thanks for your help.

Bowl A Rama I think is around there as well.  Berks useally has good leagues.  Allentown PA also has some good league play and it's only 15-20 mins away as well.

In Allentown there is  AMF Parkway, Boulevard, Jordan, Rose Bowl and Mountainville Lanes...

Allentown 15 minutes away from reading?  Eh...

I've bowled a few tournaments in each.  Like Saw said, not very difficult houses, only real difference is the actual bowling alley itself.  I go to May's shop in Berks for my pro shop stuff.

I remember one of my last YABA tournaments back in 2001, there was a JBT in Bowl-O-Rama.  With 16 scratch entries the scratch cut was +114(6th) for 5 games qualifying.  After 3 games I was +84 and was in 12th out of 16 players.  There were 6 honor scores on the day which I think is still a JBT record for 1 tournament.  From what I heard much hasn't changed since.  I remember they had these funky ball returns that were raised so you couldn't get too deep past 40 or you'd hit the cap between the lanes.

Mr. Schellhammer has a great shop there that has tons and tons of older classic equipment.  I try to make 1 trip up there every summer to pick up 1 or 2 goodies.

Chacko's isn't too far away from Reading as well.  If you want to average 250 and throw 10 300s a season, send your buddy to Chacko's to bowl league.

Heard of a place called Oakwood? Also referred to as Jokewood, easiest place around, also Bardon lanes is referred to as Jokewood West. Two easiest houses in the area. Slatebelt on the other hand, high average, a proud 195, 300 games, 7 (in its history), 800's=3 and Parker Bohn III high sereis 774. Difficult house to say the least.
