Tournament in Early May
« on: March 03, 2009, 06:46:49 AM »
Hey Guys-

I am looking to run a tournament in the Lancaster Area (Blue Ball Lanes)... Looking either the first or 2nd weekend in May (open to suggestions)

It will be a sport pattern, and if I draw 140 (approx.) entries, should be able to pay $1000.00 or more first place

First off, how do the rules and format look, and secondly, If you would bowl, for $35.00 would you bowl multiple squads?

1.   Entry Fee: $35.00 ($7.50 Lineage, $2.50 expenses, $25.00 prize fund), re-entries allowed.
2.   Tournament Format: 3 games qualifying across 6 lanes, no finals, and total pin fall determines the final standings
3.   Squad Times: Friday 5/?? at __ and ___, Saturday 5/?? At ___, ___, ___, and ___, Sunday 5/?? At  ___ and ___.
4.   All USBC rules will be in effect
5.   Bowlers will use their highest average from 2007/2008 or 2008/2009. Minimum twenty-one (21) games. All averages must be verified at check in, All Bowlers MUST present sanction cards upon registration.
6.   Handicap will be based on 90% of 210 - minimum average 145 (58 pins / game max).  Those above 210 will receive 0 pins.
7.   $5.00 optional entry for women and senior (55 and older) division. 100% of money goes to separate prize fund, where 1 in 6 cash.
8.   Dress Code: Dress presentable.  Jeans allowed, no hats
9.   1 in 6 Entries Cash (multiple cashes allowed, only 1 cash spot in top 10)
10.   PBA Exempt Players, and USBC YOUTH sanctioned bowlers are NOT allowed to participate
11.   THE TOURNAMENT COMMITTEE RESERVES ALL RIGHT.
12.   Checks are not accepted at tournament site however, you can pay in advance with them.
13.   There will be High Game Pots, Eliminator and Brackets offered
14.   If by war, fire, labor strike, entry shortages, etc. or act of God and it becomes impossible to complete the tournament, all guarantee prizes will be adjusted percentage wise based on entries that have bowled. There will be no liability to the tournament or Blue Ball Lanes
15.   Entries will close after the ___ squad on _____

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Its in the summer, its handicap, your taking 10.00 out of 35.00......

Maybe get 15-20 bowlers

This is all true, but to offer $1,000 for 35 bucks?? Let me know when you find something close to that in the area...

What if I drop it to 80% ?  It has to be handicapped for the center to run it...  Also, with it being sport, I don't really see the averages under 190 having a chance at competing....

Again, where are you going to spend $35.00 for a chance at $1,000???

Not anywhere for a reason.  To expect 140+, you need more time to advertise, more word of mouth to get around, and DEFINITELY no handicap.  There is enough talent in the area to draw a crowd, but 140 for a 3 game, handicapped tournament is pushing it.

The idea is good, but it won't fly.
