NJ Scratch Leagues?
« on: March 07, 2009, 03:37:39 AM »
Hey Guys,

Anybody know of any good scratch singles leagues around Monmouth/Middlesex Counties?  I'm looking to get more experience in this type of environment.

Thanks
Steve

Carolier:
Friday night, 8:00/8:30 PM, The Middlesex County Majors. 5-man, cut-throat, expensive. Left side had been major walled up last time I bowled it. Not a fun league. Tons of pots and brackets. People seem to bowl in it JUST to make money. (Sorry, I see now you wanted "good". I don't think this one is so good.)

Howell:
Wednesday night, 9:30 PM, Kleeners Warehouse, 4 man, not so cut-throat, much nicer group of guys and women. I subbed 2 weeks ago, nice amount of oil for a change, small wall, mostly wet/dry. http://www.leaguesecretary.com/LeagueFiles.aspx?LID=30253

Most money leagues these days are handicap.

That Kleener's warehouse, is that on the THS at Howell or do they alter it for this league?

As far as I know, it's the house shot. You can ask OJ or Marvin who does the oiling or Jack at the front desk. I'll ask OJ the next time I see him.

I did practice there early one afternoon, which I do not usually do. It still had a very nice amount of skid (MUCH more than Carolier's light oil) considering they don't oil til late in the afternoon and there was 2 evening leagues and one morning league.

Yeah, Howell's THS is nice compared to most.  Strathmore did a nice job of tightening up their shot a bit.  It's still got a monster puddle in the middle so any tug inside holds pocket, but the miss room to the right isn't as much.  Averages are down 10 pins on the whole and I'm enjoying the bit of a challenge.

But I think the Kleener's warehouse might be my ticket for next winter.

Thanks Jeff!

Well, I won't bowl in the Majors. Other than Howell, as I said above all themoney league I know of are handi-crap. You might like the one I told you about today, Curtis. Handicap is 70% of 220, with no negative if you're over 220. 3 man 4 games.
