Striking Value: % remaining accurate?!
« on: December 04, 2007, 04:34:05 AM »
Has anyone else noticed that Striking Value on BowlingBall.com is never accurate? For example, the poker chips that were listed as being sold out earlier this morning are once again available at 1% remaining.

I have seen this trend several times over the last couple of weeks.

I would like to recommend 2 changes to John (id:bowlingball), if he is reading:

(1.) If you (bowlingball.com) are going to present the % remaining as a real-time indicator of quantity left, then please make it accurate. Seeing the % remaining go from 6% to 2% to 9% to 1% to sold out and back to 1% makes the potential customer question the integrity of the quantity remaining for sale. If I (as a potential buyer) think that there may be more left than shown, then it diminishes the importance of ordering early before it is listed as sold out. In addition, I (the potential buyer) will possibly decrease my perceived value of the item offered if I think the information is not accurate, and I will be less likely to make the purchase.

(2.) Each Striking Value item should be offered promptly at the same time each day, and for a fixed duration (1 day?!). The mystery of what each day brings is part of the intrigue and draw to this type of marketing plan. See how Woot! runs their site, and you'll get a good idea of what I mean.

The Striking Value is a very good (and also innovative and entertaining!) idea IMO, but it still needs some tweaks to make it have the integrity and accuracy it needs to succeed.

Just my humble $0.02 worth.

Bowling 300 900 -
I did make some cricisms in addition to stating that I liked the idea of the Striking Value.
But if I'm also making comments and helpful suggestions, how is it whining?!
Ther purpose of my post wasn't to rant; it was an attempt at improving a site that I already visit and like.

Still confused ... The poker chips which have "sold out" at least twice in the last 24 hours are now back and listed as 20% remaining.
