Umm..I bet they're still cheaper to get through Buddies than your regular local pro shop, so I don't see why there is any complaint!

Yup. I put a pair of Sport Ultras in my cart yesterday to check how much they'd be shipped and they were $105 plus about $15 shipping. Today they're $115 with free shipping.

You are correct...However, I do not buy anything through my local proshop b/c he is a D!ck and his prices are ridiculous. He trys to sell the Tour Ultras for over $250+tax. Most of his high performance balls run $249-$269+tax and slugs and grips are extra. He charges $60 to drill a ball brought in. Like I said on top of the crazy pricing, he is a arrogant d!ckhead. I just buy everything online and take to my personal driller who does not sell equipment and only drills. $25 per ball and that includes grips and slug.

I just tried this with the shoes and looks like you are correct. Even though the shoes don't say "free shipping", when you checkout the shipping comes up $0.00 UPS Ground.

We have decided to include the price of shipping into the cost of merchandise for the month of May. We didn't know how customers would respond, and knew that this type of posting would be made sooner or later on here. This is a trial, and only a trial. We have not made any definite changes to the site, and would like to get customer response to this idea, and go from there. If you would like to give me your feedback directly, please email me at http://bill@buddiesproshop.com

Buddies is still the cheapest by far. They also ship it out quickly. I usually receive my stuff within three days of ordering.I did however buy a One from Joe@allstarbowling and no one could beat his price.

I agree that buddies has the best service and are known for shipping rapidly. I have placed several orders and have been satisfied with all. I was just a little concerned at why prices would make a $10-$15 jump at one time. Its good to know that it was just shipping being included in the price. I do have a suggestion though. It would be much more clear and helpful for new customers if you were to put a big banner on the home page of your site that states "everything is shipping included".

I havent checked out shoes or balls, but cleaners and sole replacements seem pricey. Dexter soles are over $20 each shipped and some cleaners are around $12.50. That seems a little high for soles as they shouldnt be expensive to ship, and one would think if you order 3 or 4 bottles of cleaner the shipping price per item should go down.
Just my 2 cents.

I know where you are coming from, but everything I have ever ordered from buddies came via UPS ground. In my personal experiences with UPS and me selling on ebay, shipping small lightweight things with UPS is still going to run no cheaper than $6-$7. Its not like the USPS where the smaller and more lightweight the cheaper it costs. If you ship a scotchbrite pad to the next state over with UPS, its gonna run at least $6.00

To add to my last comment, I would rather pay the extra few bucks and have the shipper use a reliable source like UPS..FEDEX, or DHL. Anything but USPS if you wanna get your package within the next month.

We toyed with idea of building in pricing. Our database computes actual shipping weights that we put in the shipping database for each item and computes on the total order weight rather than a per item rate that some places use.(not just buddies or the bowling industry) We felt that this was the fairest way to get actual shipping rates and provide the best for both parties involved.(buyer/seller)
Especially with fuel surcharges and increase in shipping rates this was much easier and more fair to our customers.

How can you advertise free shipping then hide it in the price.
Its not right trial or no trial. If you want to raise prices raise them
but decieving loyal customers is not the way to do it!

I dont like this flat shipping built in rate. Shipping to me was around $10 for a bowling ball, now $15 is built into the price as "shipping". The extra $5 for shipping goes to where?
Keep it exact shipping to all your customers.
From Connecticut to New York is $10 shipping for a ball.
From Conn. to Los Angeles is $20 per ball, more or less.
$15 is the average!
Where did you think it "went"????
--------------------
"None are so blind as those who will not see."
-
My problem with this deal is that if you purchase 3 items, you are charged the new price for each item. As you know the old method of calculating exact shipping charges would only add a little more to the price for each item. For example, if a ball use to be $130 + $15 shipping and I ordered 3 balls...the shipping would only be $15 on the first ball and about $5 each for the 2nd and 3rd. Now with the shipping included in the price, you are getting charged that $15 for all 3 balls. Thats not cool.

We are looking at how to better go about the shipping. The funny thing is that we get all negative feedback on Ballreviews.com posting but the email that people send to us are all positive.
As for the comment that it is not free shipping, that is something that we have gone back and forth with inside the shop, I think that it should be shipping included *in the Contential US, but the higher powers think otherwise.
The perfect patch and pencil comment, yes the cost is high, but anyone that ships knows that from 1oz to 3lbs is roughly the same charge through UPS.
As for the comment of the people in the East paying more and the people in the west getting a break, this is not true. We ship ball from all over the country. Yes, we try to ship balls from the closest location to the customer for faster turn around but this doesn't always happen and something we have to ship from the west coast to get the customer in the east the correct specs. We are trying to do what is most fair and what is best for all of our customers.
As I said before, nothing is set in stone, and this is only a trial.

Bill, don't take this thread the wrong way. Back when I started it..I was just curious as to why the prices went up. Then we figured out that the shipping was included in the price. It was not meant as bad feedback for you and Chris. I have bought things from your site many times and have been Very satisfied each time. Everything I have to say about your site and customer service is 100% A+.
However, in my honest opinion, I like the way it was before and you could put the items in your cart and get a shipping quote based on your zip. Reason being that most time I don't just buy 1 item. I buy several things at the same time to save money on shipping. Say I bought a ball and the shipping was $15 and then I wanted to buy some scotchbrite, inserts, and grease pencils with the same order. It would only add a couple bucks for shipping b/c the other items do not take up much space and don't weigh very much. The new way w/ shipping added to each items price, it would end up making the shipping charge ridiculous. This is just my take on it and I like it better with exact shipping.

Bill would you like to touch on my explanation of why the shipping calculator would be better? I like the $5 off coupon, but I would rather see the shipping go back to the old way. It will save us customers alot more in the long run.

Great input from both sides of the coin.
I have ordered from Buddies twice. I ordered from them yesterday and Chris helped me out on the Phone, because I had a question about a coupon I received from the TAT Megabucks last February.
The first time I ordered, there was an error. I was frustrated at first, because I was getting mixed signals from certain replies regarding shipping dates. They made it right after a few email attempts. In the end I was satisfied by the outcome.
In the end, it is "Our Choice," whether or not to make the decision to buy. If we think shipping is too much, then I would look elsewhere. Buddies, good luck with this Trial Shipping thing whether you decide to go on with it, tweak it, or go back to the old way.
Best Regards from a customer of yours,
Ram

I've ordered a fair amount of stuff from Buddies and personally don't mind the increase in prices with built in shipping. However, an excellent point is raised if the buyer is purchasing more than 1 ball in the same order.
Perhaps Chris and Bill could build in some kind of instant discount for multiple ball orders....depending on the software and web site it should be an easy tweak.
What I like about Buddies is that I can call and speak to Chris or Bill and they'll check to see if they have my specs in stock (I throw a light 15lb so I'm always looking for gross weights as close to 15 pounds even as possible). They never fail to call me back in a timely fashion.
Buddies remains the site by which to gauge all others.

It's funny how ya'll are just know complaining about shipping. They have been charging you shipping from their location for years while having the item drop shipped from the distributor nearest to you. They make an extra $10 or so off of you since they charge you anywhere from $12 to $20 for shipping depending on where you live. The distributor charges them the actual price which is around $8. Also don't let them give you the handling charge thing. The distributors don't charge them any handling fees so why should they charge you any.
-
Its getting tougher and tougher with increasing fuel surcharges to flat rate shipping. We looked into it as an option but we are currently in negotiations with UPS to improve our shipping rates by leveraging other relationships we have.
For now we ship based on actual weight for the total number of items.
Not to mention that almost all teh ball prices are going up from the manufacturers and that of course gets passed down to the consumer.
Our in shop prices will absorb the small increase but because of the small margin on the web side of things we have been forced to increase pricing as well.

Actually yes.
Because of our affiliation with one of the most secure and largest website hosts in the world for Etail (Yahoo) they have offerred discounted shipping rates to us as well as others. Like a Co-Op arrangement. Its smart for them because it will bring them potentially the business that FedEx Ground might be taking away from them. Remeber they aren't doint it to be nice they are doing it to increase their market share and for the money.
