Title: bowlingball.com goes Free Shipping
Post by: johncongdon on October 28, 2008, 12:19:21 AM
We have taken our site to completely FREE Shipping on Every Item. Every Day.

We cut out all of the other fees that some other websites sell as well.
* No hidden packaging fees.
* No additional fees for insurance that is already included by the shipper.

We have also lowered prices on over 1000 items.

Check out the changes.  http://www.bowlingball.com

It would be nice to be able to request pin distance and top weight from your website. Then I would patronize your business. Spending $100 or more on a ball and not knowing what your gonna get is no good. I think you loose alot of business to others because of that.

moooorich,

We do honor pin and top weight requests.  We were the first website to guarantee specs on the Internet.  We don't put them on the product page because most people don't know what they are, and it would confuse many of them.

We honor all pin requests with 1/2" and all top weight with 1/2 ounce.

You enter your requests in during checkout.
1) Through Google Checkout, there is a link that says "Add Special requests"
2) Through our checkout, there is a Special Requests box just above the "Place My Order" button.

I hope that clears things up for you    Please be a Patron of ours.

is pricing gonna change to reflect the free shipping??

No.

Because bowlingball.com ships in such large quantities, UPS is willing to lose millions of dollars per year and not charge them a single cent for the continued support in exchange only for a logoed link on their website.

Or, is this not the case?

Please, simply look to the bottom line and see how competitive a price might be.  For example, if I decide to give a ball away for free but charge $115 for shipping across the time zone...see what I mean?

You can request your prefered pin distance and top weight. At the end of your order, there is a place that says comments....this is where you place your request...... I ordered an AMF Heist from them last week and requested a 2" -2.5" pin and 2.5 to 3 oz top weight. The ball arrived Saturday by Fed-Ex with a 2 3/8" pin and 3 oz of top weight, so they sent me EXACTLY what I requested.

230-n-up-or-bust,

I agree with you that people should just look at the bottom line.  But from comments and emails, we know that most people don't.  People either honestly think that shipping is free, or they just think it is easier to make a final decision.

We decided to make the decision super easy.  No more adding the product to your cart to get your shipping total.

no I completely understand the concept but what I was asking for example we all the prices of the balls gonna be raised 15.99 to compensate for saying you have free shipping.. that's it.

There was not a flat rate added to balls, if that is your question.  Many prices have actually dropped.

For example, some viz-a-balls you would have paid $110.00 including shipping last week, now you will pay $99.99 Free Shipping.

However, prices have changed completely to reflect our new pricing structure.

So after years of doing the above,  you now decide to come clean!!!!

Sounds like the end is near,  the ship is sinking,  are you still making $4 per ball?  I have notice a huge dropoff in outside balls being brought in for drilling.

And companies like 900global, that do not allow their product "footballed" online, certainly can not be helping.  And more and more pro shops, each and everyday are finding out, what a pleasure it is to deal with them.  Instead of dealing with back stabbing dist. who play both ends against the middle.

And everytime a pro shop sells a 900global ball,  that is one less from the other ball companies being sold.  You know the ball companies that allow their product "footballed" online.

Pro shops are waking up.

have a nice day

Bowling.com price.....  $139.99

My pro shop's price..... $139.95   wow, what a deal.

Back to the drawing board you go.  Looks like you missed a item or two.

BTW  bowling.com does carry Storm Streamline 3 ball rollers.

My shop does too,  but I noticed, you don't!!!!!

Talk is cheap

I love how you try to build your site up by trying to cut down other sites.  Like the supposed Hidden Packaging fee Im guessing at Bowling.com.  They have had that posted, not hidden, for as long as I have dealt with them.  And they give coupons out to take care of that cost to returning customer.  Your site has claimed Free Shipping all over the front page for a while now but it had only been on certain items.  How is that for hidden fees.  Bowling.com have basically had free shipping for me for over 3 years now with my coupons.  Im glad to see you guys finally catching on.  And the Shipping Insurance is Free at Bowling.com.  The Extended Insurance thats 2.99 means that if your item is lost, stolen or damaged, then Bowling.com sends out replacements immediately instead of making the customer wait through Claims that have to be issued through shipping companies.  If you don't want the extended insurance for 2.99 you get treated the same as Bowlingball.com customer that have problems with shipments.  And I like how the customer service is at Bowling.com.  You talk to people during their business hours about technical questions instead of leaving a message and waiting by the phone for someone to call back.  And you can enter specs which it sounds like you cant do on Bowlingball.com.  I will stick with with Bowling.com.  Better customer service!

Thanks

Not trying to defend anybody here, just pointing out some things that stuck out at me.

quote:

How in the world do you get that they are striking out at bowling.com in particular?  Many places disguise extra shipping fees as "packaging" fees.

quote:
And they give coupons out to take care of that cost to returning customer.

That's nice. What about the one time, "spur of the moment" buyer who will never go back?

quote:
Your site has claimed Free Shipping all over the front page for a while now but it had only been on certain items.  How is that for hidden fees.

Anyone buying anything over the internet should be aware of the cost long before spending any money. It is up to the consumer to verify that shipping on an item is actually free. If you didn't do that, paying for the shipping is YOUR fault.

quote:
Bowling.com have basically had free shipping for me for over 3 years now with my coupons.  Im glad to see you guys finally catching on.

Catching on to what, coupons?  Bowlingball.com has decided to forego ALL the idiosyncrasies of extra charges, no gimmicky coupons needed.

quote:
And the Shipping Insurance is Free at Bowling.com.  The Extended Insurance thats 2.99 means that if your item is lost, stolen or damaged, then Bowling.com sends out replacements immediately instead of making the customer wait through Claims that have to be issued through shipping companies.  If you don't want the extended insurance for 2.99 you get treated the same as Bowlingball.com customer that have problems with shipments.

Tough to decipher this one, but, I think I know what you mean.  Companies don't have to offer you ANY insurance. Bowling.com has free coverage and bowlingball.com's is $2.99. Three dollars isn't going to change my mind about something I am spending over $100 on.

quote:
And I like how the customer service is at Bowling.com.  You talk to people during their business hours about technical questions instead of leaving a message and waiting by the phone for someone to call back.

Good customer service is hard to find. If you like bowling.com's customer service, that's great, but, if you are having to call and talk technical questions about how to drill a ball, you shouldn't be buying from the internet in the first place.

quote:
And you can enter specs which it sounds like you cant do on Bowlingball.com.

You most certainly CAN request specs at bowlingball.com.  On the checkout page under the special comments, just type in your request there. That's what it is for.

I will stick with with Bowling.com.

  Certainly your perogative.

I've ordered from a number of bowling companies online.
My orders with Bowlingball.com have all been uneventful (which is good).
WRT the original post, I fail to see how adjusting your marketing and sals plan to meet current market demand is a bad thing, as JLS and Scizzo have insinuated.
BTW - I also like the Striking Value of the Day. I'm waiting on some shoes with adjustable heels/slide pads to come up ...

Wow, everyone is at each others throats here.  Someone found one product, and I am not saying we are lower on everything.  But I can say we are lower on most.

We have never advertised all free shipping before.  We used to offer free shipping on select products.

I mentioned the viz-a-ball as one example.  People used to pay upwards of $110 after shipping.  We lowered many of them to $99.  It was one example.

Thank you to those of you that have taken a minute to try and clarify things for us.  I do not wish to get into a battle of words on here.  I was just letting everyone know about the changes that we have made.

Reading must be a problem for you.  Did you not see where JLS posted that your bowlingball.com's price is $10 higher then bowling.com's price and JLS price.

I read just fine. I also filter out worthless crap, kind of like the stuff you're spewing. A 1 item sample set (such as the shoes in question) is not even remotely reliable when looking at a significantly larger set of values (more than 1000 items). You have been educated properly in statistics, right?!?!
quote:
So what you are saying is that you don't mind paying $10 more?

Since YOU, Sjf, obviously can't read, I'll repeat from my post (in simple terms so you can try to comprehend): I frequently shop at multiple online bowling sites. I do price shop for the best deal. If bowlingball.com has the best price (with shipping, tax, etc.) then I'll buy from them. If not, I'll go elsewhere. I merely said in my post that my transactions with bowlingball.com have all been handled smoothly. I inferred nothing about any other online shopping sites with my comment.
quote:
Nice try,  you work for them right?

Epic fail on your part. You obviously haven't read my profile. (Again, who has the reading problem here?! At least I have the cajones to post a profile online.). I work for a large agribusiness. That has never, ever, been confused with a bowling distributor.

Let's turn the tables: Do you work for the competition, Sjf?! You certainly have an axe to grind with bowlingball.com.

Since you want to cast aspersions based on 1-item sample sets, how about this one: a Morich Awesome Revs bowling ball. Bowling.com price is $152.99. Bowlingball.com has it today for $98.00. Both have free shipping. Do you enjoy paying $55.00 more for this ball at your preferred retailer?! You thought a $10.00 price difference was excessive ...

Finally, if you're going to call me out in these forums, at least bring a reasonable, rational argument backed with facts. Otherwise, you're just making yourself look silly.

Sjf ... you sound a lot like jls. Same sentence structure. Same lack of capitalization and punctuation. Same simple 3 letter username. Same use of the posters name at the start of your rebuttal post. Too many similarities to be a coincedence. Maybe you're not one in the same person, but I'll bet you're related!

Back to your post ... what part of "price comparison shopping" in my post did you not understand?!?!

Finally, you didn't answer if you worked for the competition or not?

Try this one.

I was looking for an AMF Heist....Local pro shops don't have it.....Their distributors don't have it....Buddies doesn't have it....I could only find it at 2 places....Bowlingball.com & Bowling.com....and finally price wise....

Bowlingball.com..... $139.99
Bowling.com......... $ 74.99
Difference is........$ 65.00

Guess where I ordered it from?

And as for communications.....I've had problems with Bowlingball.com in the past with communications. They have yet to EVER answer an Email when I email them. I even tried again this time to no avail, but when I Emailed Bowling.com, I had NO problem getting responses from them the same day. You won't find a better person to communicate with than Megan at Bowling.com. (And of coarse also Bill at Buddies) Now....

Guess which of these 2 places (Bowlingball.com & Bowling.com) I will do business with in the future in addition to my also doing business with Buddies and my local pro shop?

Due to their failure to communicate, I will never again even give a second thought to trying to order something from Bowlingball.com. They are a joke in my book.

Brick -
Our mileage with bowlingball.com obviously varied. Sorry to hear you had a bad experience.

I have not had problems with either Bowlingball.com or bowling.com.

I merely posted the Awesome Revs for Sjf/jls' benefit to show that a 1-item sample size is not appropriate. Now if one could show that many items (much more than .1%) were substantially different, that would be sufficient to prove any claim of the lowest prices wrong.

I'm sure that each of the 2 listed online bowling stores has many items that are less than at the other. That's why one should comparison shop before making a purchase.

As you pointed out, price is only 1 factor in your purchase decision. Customer satisfaction is also very important, and may outweigh any benefit in price from another store. It's a personal value choice.

1MechEng....no problem. I agree with you on price variations for different items. Although I didn't mention it, part of the reason for my post was to show why the on-line shops are important and need to remain in business because without them, I may not have been able to find the Heist with the exact specs that I was looking for....

I haven't had a ball drilled by Anne Marie for quite some time now. She has good knowledge of layouts, but her drilling isn't as accurate as the person that has been drilling my balls for quite a while. I'm not saying they don't, but I really doubt that San Antonio has any Heists anyhow, now that it's been discontinued for quite some time. In fact even Duggan's don't even show the Heist on their web site.

quote:

That was  definitely not the reason as I don't know what they would sell it for if they did find one. I didn't even check there as I don't get my balls drilled there. FYI, I did check with my driller and he couldn't get it.

Try not to be making accusations without knowing the facts.

So, why didn't you give the business to the person that drills your balls?  In reality,  any pro shop can get their hands on any ball...maybe for a few bucks more but it's a small price to pay for good layouts/drilling...yes?

Scott, if you will go back and read what I wrote, you will see that I wrote...

FYI, I did check with my driller and he couldn't get it.

Brick,

The he didn't try hard enough.  Any driller worth his salt with a good customer can get anything at a price.  He chose not to get it.

If, I told my driller I wanted something he would get it but would tell me what it would cost.  Here is my driller.  http://www.robbaileysproshop.com/

Again, an accusation with no evidence to make it from.

As for who your driller is, I don't know him and I could care less as he isn't located nearby to where I live so this information is of no value to me.

But, he lives near me and shows me the way a small businessman should do business.  I guess, you can't find this good service nearby.  I'd pay him much more for his work cuz he knows what he is doing.  It's not about price or on-line for me but service....for those that have no pro shop to work with nearby...it is just a shame.

I am astounded to hear Ann Marie and Pat do not do better fitting and work.

Scott,

Not to defend Brick or anything, but, there have been MANY times I have been able to find, and purchase, balls that our local shop has told customers they can no longer get. Usually, all I have to do is ask here because someone here usually knows where things are at.

If you have a good shop that will go the extra mile, as you say they will, then you have an extrordinary shop and seems like he probably deserves your loyalty.  As for me, many times I have to go and find my own stuff and many times the shop guy is dumbfounded that I found one, then mad about what I paid for it.

It is too bad Jugg.......more people should be served like pro's like Rob Bailey.  He knows the game and can fit correctly and if it's not right he stands behind his work.

I gets the chills when I think of people being served by the noobs in the business and that's bad for bowling and the industry.

Wish Brick and Jugg the best in getting many great games/series!!!

Scott, Pat has nothing to do with the pro shop in terms of drilling, fitting,  or anything for that matter. That shop is all Anne Marie's thing. She does good work, but the person I have been going to is more accurate than she is and this is really important to me as I am very sensitive to feel.

I do however use her to make my molded thumb slugs as the person that drills for me doesn't do that. The person that drills my balls runs the pro shop but doesn't own it. A person out of Tulsa owns it as well as several others.

I do buy my balls from this driller when he can get them, but in the case of the Heist, he couldn't get it. It costs me about $20 more to get my balls from him, but it is worth it to me because he takes the time to insure it is drilled right.

DOnt lump me into this crap, I beleive in healthy competition, but when 4-5 shops work in conjunction with distributors to corner the marked, there is no longer free enterprise.  I sell my share and am happy with that, but I also know I have to push the smaller or niche stuff because of these big shop/distributor relationships  I am in no way shape or form asking for the field to be level, as they all do way more business then me and given that they should have lower prices, but dont partner up and try to run everyone else out of business by offering items at a deflated value just to run your competition away, price accordingly and let the public decide

I am sorry but I don't get why everyone is complaining about the free shipping. If you don't like it or agree with it, don't buy from bowlingball.com, period..

Keep paying whatever price you want to pay. As long as the person that is buying feels good about the item and the place they are buying it from, that's all that matters..

Matching prices....

I think any website will match prices.  If you find an Internet retailer (not just in bowling) that you like, I am sure you can ask them to match another price and they will, if possible.

Most people here seemed to hit the nail on the head, look at the final price.  The Internet is great for shopping around in just a few clicks.

You can talk about a $5 coupon that will save you the packaging fee.  Here is a $10 coupon for any order of $75 for BallReview.com customers.  Just use Promotion Code BROCT.  Good until 10/31/2008.

You are wasting your time. Have you not figured out that there exist many buffoons on this site? At least as many idiots as rational people on here.

It matters not that you make sense or are rational. Why waste the time trying to convince an idiot, or several idiots. You got the recipe. Shop around, buy at the best price. That keeps all the online sellers honest.
