bowlingball.com on eBay
« on: August 31, 2005, 12:44:13 AM »
I can't stand these guys for the simple fact that they increase their shipping charges every 6 months now.  Have a look:

http://cgi.ebay.com/EBONITE-XXCEL-X-OUT-Bowling-Ball-15-lb-NIB_W0QQitemZ7179409675QQcategoryZ36105QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

$22.95?  Give me a break.

I agree and disagree with you but shipping has gone up with gas.  I know it doesn't cost $23 to ship everywhere but it cost be like $11 to ship in state the other day I use to could ship up north for that price.  Shipping had definitely spiked lately now I am sure they are making money off of it here and there but someitmes they may not as well.

Just like the oil companies, the shippers want to protect their margin (profits)although the cost has gone up. 22.95 is a bit hefty

Yes the shipping is high, but how discounted is the ball your buying. I know what your saying but in the overall scheme of things are you still receiving a bargain.

I shipped a 16# ball from VA to WA yesterday via UPS for a little over $15 (that included insurance).  I still don't see the point of charging over $20 to ship a ball anywhere within the U.S. other than trying to squeeze every penny out of your customers.  I ship pretty often and UPS has maybe raised their rates about 50 cents in the last year.

So by that rationale, it's ok to gouge on the shipping just because it's an auction site?  I think eBay would have a "field day" with your statement.

I agree with this statement 100%.. Just because you get the ball at a great auction price does not mean its OK for them to screw the buyer on shipping costs!! I bought a ball from this a few weeks ago and ask for a specific pin and it wasn't even close to what I ask for. I am done with bowlingball.com, thats for sure..

If they only made a ball that would carry that da_n 7 pin (and I am right handed!!)

They're in Orlando, I'm in Fort Myers. I can drive to them myself in 2.5 hours but they won't reduce shipping, so I've stopped dealing with them.

So don't buy it from there.....

Problem solved.

Really, is it that simple for real?  I never thought of that.
I haven't bid on anything from them in over a year and don't plan on ever again.  So it's not my problem.  I do, however, feel sorry for everyone else that they are ripping on the shipping (that also includes any other seller that charges crazy S&H fees).

I have bought 20 balls from bowlingball.com over the last three years, and only received one ball with poor specs; because they had nothing else.  Also just bought a pair of SST 6's for $39.99 for my wife.  You have to pay attention to when they start selling an item and buy early if you want good specs.

The shipping is high, but there are usually several factors as to why people do this.

First, the cost of shipping an item between a state, ie, could be $10 via UPS.  If he was shipping from FL to WA, it may cost $15.

This may not apply to retailers, but it does cost money for boxes, tape, etc.

Lastly, ebay takes a cut from everything but shipping, and they do advertise what their shipping cost is, it's not hidden somewhere in small print.

Anything other mislistings is wrong, but if you see everything right in front of you, caveat emptor.  Ever see those infomercials?  Buy one get the second free, just pay shipping, yet they don't tell you shipping is like $20 for a mop.

I don't deal with  them either. Terrible consumer skills depending on who you speak with. I have been blocked for almost 2yrs because they failed to respond to my email for incorrect ball shipped. It took them 4 days to contact me...anyway my wife deals with them still. She got me a 14# spareball for 0.01+ the 22.95s/h ...I guess I won one...But if you decide to use them be carefull in bidding, set your limit and if you don,t win they have plenty more....9

I won't buy from them anymore either. I requested a 2-3 inch pin and I got a 5 inch pin and when I emailed them about it, they didn't answer me at all. Then when I tried bidding on another ball for my wife, I realized they put me on their restricted bid list which means I can't bid on thier auctions anymore anyways!!

Now is that great customer service or what!!

Also, note that they sell under the seller Bowlmart as well.  If you happen to win one ball from Bowlmart and one from bowlingball.com they will not give you the reduced shipping of $17.95 on the second ball.  Yet, they both come together.
