bowlingball.com - packaging issue - damaged ball
« on: November 29, 2006, 10:20:03 AM »
Well, tonight I received my AMF Radar, Orbit Xtreme, and my Ebonite rasp.

My order came in 2 seperate boxes.  One was the normal sized double-boxed bowling ball box (9x9x9), and the other was slightly bigger box (9.5 x 11 x 11).  They had e-mailed me and told me there would be two packages.  I figured with the rasp, that would necessitate extra packaging.

Upon opening the larger box, I found my Orbit Xtreme, and nothing else.

After opening my Radar, I found the rasp shoved in the box.

Taking out the Radar, I noticed the plastic bag was torn up in several areas.  I was not happy to find that good portion of the ball is scratched (it covers about an 8 x 8 inch area).  Some of the scratches are as deep as the engraving on the ball!

I know it's only a bowling ball, but all of the scratches are are to the left of the pin and CG, so that will end up in my track area.

I don't know if a resurface would remove all of the scratches.  Having to pay $50 to get this thing drilled, I don't think I should have to pay another $20-30 for a resurface from the pro shop.

I just don't understand why they decided to put the rasp in the box with the ball, and not in the larger box.  The "bag" for the rasp is a flimsy piece of plastic, and we all know that UPS is not gentle when handling packages.

I just order 2 more balls and a wrist support today - I hope they don't try to shove the wrist support in the box with the ball.

Pics are here - http://new.photos.yahoo.com/qstick777/album/576460762356648543

I'm in the process of reporting the damage, and from what I've heard, I don't expect any problems.  They ask that you submit pictures of the damage.  I'm just a little disappointed that I'll have to wait another week.  I got a ball with good specs (3 oz top and 3.5-4" pin), so I hope that the replacement is just as good.

Should work now.

Yahoo "improved" their system, so they moved the box the mark the album public or private.

Dude that is horrible isn't it, that happened to me on Tuesday when i got my Buzz from UPS, the ball came with a chunk in the side of it 1 and 1/4 inch long and 1/8 inch deep. I was discusted. I reported the damage today and am hoping to get my money back or the $100 insurance money. UPS is regarded as the best shipping company, but all i see is damaged boxes everytime i get something from them. Sorry about your luck, your not the only one, hope you get it staritened out.

Thanks.  Actually, the box isn't damaged at all, not even the inside!

I imagine it's just from the ball and rasp being together and UPS just tossing the boxes.  If they hadn't put the rasp in the ball box there wouldn't have been any problems.  Theres about 10 holes in the rasp case.

You definitely should not have to resurface a brand new ball before it's ever thrown.  Hopefully they will send you a replacement with minimal hassle.

qstick777,

I am very sorry about the mistake made in our warehouse.  We will definitely get out there and say something right away.  Also, please PM me your order number and we will make this right.

Just wanted to update this:

6 days, 3 PMs to John, and 2 e-mails with pictures to images@bowlingball.com (as suggested on their website) and still no update on this.

Actually, John was very quick to respond to the PMs, although I haven't received anything since Nov 30.  Strange that I never received any response by follwing the procedure on their site.

I know things fall through the cracks every once in a while, and I guess it was me this time.

I don't think there will be an issue - John already said thye would offer a $20 credit for the resurface (which I declined - don't think it will be able to fix the damage) or process the claim for replacement (which I responded via PM on 12/1), but as of today I still haven't heard anything.

Just received my other order, and another damaged ball.  This time it wasn't bowlingball.com's fault, It looks to be all UPS's fault.  The HP printer I ordered was also delivered with a damaged box, except it never made it past the stryofoam cushioning.

Also pleased to find that instead of the blue/black glove that I ordered, I instead got a red/black glove.  I guess red and blue are pretty close?

Anyways, I'm not sure if I should even bother to follow the procedure from the website, PM John or Keith, or how to go about getting this taken care of.

Inverted1-

Hopefully I don't have to wait that long!

These last two balls will bring my number to 14 that I have bought from them - from the website and from ebay.

I've never had any problems before.  Obviously the first problem was a warehouse packaging error.  The second is both a warehouse problem (shipping the wrong product) and a shipper problem - not their fault that UPS is rough with packages.

And hopefully you can get your problem taken care of soon.

qstick777,

Wow, I really apologize for the delay.  I passed it off to customer service and assumed it was handled.  I will personally get on it tomorrow morning.

Inverted1, Please PM me so that I can get more information about your order.

We have seemed to a good job at turning around our customer service on the message boards here, and I don't want these couple of things to blemish that.

Just wanted to let everybody know that my replacement Radar arrived on Friday.  The specs were almost identical to the first ball, so I'm very happy.

Thanks John for helping me out once again!  How should I go about getting the UPS damaged ball taken care of?  Is that something you guys take care of, or do I need to file a claim with UPS?

Just wanted to update....again.

Yesterday I received the replacement Saturn, and today I received the correct glove.

This time I actually received an e-mail from customer support letting me know that the stuff was on the way.

Problem solved and I'm satisfied.

Thanks again to John and the rest of the bowlingball.com team.
