Buddies Pro Shop - Expected More
« on: February 24, 2006, 10:58:48 AM »
Well, I just found out from my uncle a little bit of information about Buddies that is very distrubing.  One of his teammates bought a Paradigm from Buddies, and for whatever reason, it cracked.  Buddies would not even take the ball back for a warranty consideration.  They said SORRY - we cant help you.

Ironically, my uncle, who also has a Paradigm, had his crack a week after he had it drilled.  He went back to the pro shop where he bought it from.  His ball was replaced and redrilled at no extra cost.  Same day, no problems at all.

Looks like Buddies is not so  "CUSTOMER FRIENDLY" after all!

Storm should be the one you contact for the warranty.  They will replace the ball if it cracked.  Not up to Buddies.

Sorry I disagree on this one.. Why would buddies warranty a ball they did not drill?? Thats why alot of people do not choose to buy on the internet. Its just the chance people take to save some money. Yes the prices are cheaper but the difference is when buying a ball from your local pro shop and he drills the ball, and it cracks, he will be able to warranty it..

Alot of cracking is due to dull drill bits, installing grips with the wrong type of glue and not making the bridge wide enough when installing grips..

Sorry this has happened but I buy all my stuff on the net and have never had any issues but if I do, I am not expecting the seller or for that matter the guy that drills my internet ball to help me in any way.

Its a chance I choose to take to save $$$ but to say Buddies has bad customer service over this issue is just not fair. I have worked with them multiple times and never had any problems at all..

Did Buddies let you know to contact storm for warranty problems?

I'm sorry, JK, but I disagree.  If he got a bum ball (and from what I've heard here, Paradigms do have some cracking issues), then it should be replaced.  It is a defect in craftsmanship, and the manufacturer's fault.  I do not consider it the risk of buying online if you get a piece of equipment that was no good.

If Buddies won't fix it (I very much doubt warranty issues are out of their pocket, besides some processing costs), Storm should.  Contact Storm about getting a replacement.

Buddies didn't make the ball and you're buying at wholesale price when you go through them.  That is why there are warranty cards in the box when the ball comes.  Most pro shops that DRILL your balls will do the legwork for you because they are making a lot more money.  I thought it was common knowledge that if you have a warranty problem with a ball that the PRODUCTION company takes care of it!

While I agree the ball wasn't drilled by buddies it is a known issue that the Paradigms had a bad batch that got shipped out and because of what buddies states on their website this should be a case where they should replace the ball themselves.  I buy almost everything from buddies and they are one of the best around but in this particular situation I think they should have done more.

I guess we can all agree to disagree.  I think Buddies prices and service are great.  It wouldn't matter to me if I put a Buddies address on the shipping box or a Storm address.  Just my opinion.

One more thing... for alot of people that have a bowling ball crack they don't know that they can call the company directly.  Almost everything bought in life is returned to the seller if something goes wrong, not the manufacturer.  With that said I would have probably just called Storm from the get go but only because I have read on these forums about others doing the same.

Nope thats not how it works Shane!

  thank God its bowling night!

Sorry but thats exactly how it works.. I agree with Shane 100%...

Buddies did not make the ball or drill the ball.. How do they know what happened to the ball after they shipped it?? No way they can be responsible for that. I also find it hard to beleive any internet ball company would just replace the ball if someone said its cracked.. They for sure will not be in business very long..

Everyone has an opinion on this but to me its just common sense..

Just my input,

Even if Buddies isn't responsible for replacing the ball they should assist you in contacting Storm representatives for possible replacement-in some manner.  After all they did sell you the ball.  Therefore they hold all of the purchasing information needed for the manufacturer.  Why not just point the customer in the right direction, let Storm do the rest, and keep the business relationship in good standing?  This at least makes the customer feel you care a little.  Win win situation.  As a person who has made many purchases from Buddies, I can vouch that they have always handled any problems I have had first rate.  But I am just a impartial observer in this.  Common sense overrules.

Well it's obvious where everyone stands on this issue, so lets put it to rest.  I will not change my opinion of Buddies because of this incident, and in my opinion, neither should anyone else.  Buddies has handled many problems in the past and has a very good reputation.  Check the feedback section on them and that will speak for itself.  Don't believe everything that was posted about what they HEAR from teamates.  Too many links in that chain.

Hello to all. It's been a while since I've been here. For warranty issues on Storm products we have been told by Storm to have the customer contact them directly and speak to Earnest. They are a great company when it comes do defective equipment. Thus when a customer contacts about a problem with any Storm product we ask them to contact Storm directly.

This is just one of the reasons we feel that Storms' customer service is 1st rate. They want to hear directly fom the customer and straighten out the problems.
