Buddies Pro Shop Shipping Prices!?!?
« on: June 07, 2004, 11:16:01 PM »
I just noticed something strange with how BuddiesProSop calculates their shipping charges.

For example, if I go to their web site and click on closeouts on the left and then add a 15lb Icon 300 to my cart then enter my state and zip code to calculate the shipping charges, it comes out to $15.09.

Now if I clear my shopping cart and go under their current selection of bowling balls and go to say, Brunswick and add a 15lb Inferno to my cart then calculate shipping, it comes out to only $12.41!

Now I tried this with several balls from their closeout page thinking it was just an error with that particular ball, but everytime I get the same result...higher shipping for a closeout ball.

Why are they charging an extra $2.68 for shipping a ball that is on their closeout list(exact same gross weight)

The close out balls might be coming from somewhere else.
Example, He keep current balls as stock items in his shop,
but discontinued items either stay at his supplier or
the factory.  So when you place an order he has the
ball shipped to his place then ships it to you.

I guess $3 isn't that much compared to what you save on the ball.

Caveat emptor.  Bowlingball.com does something similar.  If you win one of their Ebay auctions, the first ball shipping rate is $19.95.  Subsequent balls shipped in the same order are an additional $12 each.  Their Ebay balls are mostly closeouts, discontinued balls, and less popular models.  However, if you go to their online store looking to purchase a current and/or more popular model, shipping is a flat $10 per ball.  Naturally, prices for these balls are higher, so it all tends to balance out in the end.

Columbia uses a higher quality cardboard box which tend to weigh quite a bit more then the flimsy Brunswick boxes. That probably explains the difference in shipping prices.

could columbia 300's current financial difficulties stem from spending too much money on cardboard boxes ?

Shipping prices on closeouts items are figured based on the location that they are in. When items are added that are not closeouts the prices will reflect shipping from CT.
