Finger Pitches ?
« on: December 14, 2005, 04:43:40 PM »
What is the norm on finger pitches I Know forward pitch helps lift the ball, and reverse helps to hang on to the ball if your a little older, but what my pro shop guy has told me that left and right is not as important why? My ball is finger tip and pitches are 1/4 left on middle finger 1/4 right on ring finger and 0 on both fingers forward and reverse.  I visited another pro shop and he said that my pitches was wrong left and right he said 1/2 right on middle and 1/4 on ring but that just sounds like an extreme change. I have no problems with what I have.  I Ave. over 225 but I just was wanting someone's opinion on this topic.  Thanks

Saw The Rack.......from my own personal experience, I disagree. It may be true for some people, but it isn't true for me. Lateral pitches have a huge effect on my grip and release. Maybe it is because my swing is some what but not entirely a free swing, I don't know. I am RH and recently went from 1/8 left on MF and 5/8 right on RF to 5/16 left on MF and 7/16 right on RF and I couldn't believe the difference in my release, more revs on the ball, and etc.

Maybe it has to do with hand construction, I don't know, but there are people like myself that will say lateral finger pitches make a difference and others like yourself that say it doesn't. Certain lateral finger pitches will help a person stay behind the ball and certain ones will haelp a person get around the ball.

From my own personal experience, I again disagree on this, at least for myself anyhow as it did change for me.....a bunch. The only way to really tell what it will do for a person is to try it and see. I guess a person should say...."to each his own" on changing pitches on both thumb, fingers, etc.

Accodring to Mo bo bo di ding go Pinel, to change your roll you must roll your pitches at least 3/8 of an inch to the side you wan't your roll to be effected.

Anything less isn't a big enough change.

That is like some of the things Bill Taylor states. For example, on his pitches vs span and etc., his chart is not set in stone. It is only a guideline. Ditto for his coke can test and ditto for Mo Pinel's 3/8. It must be recognized that everyone's hand is not the same. In regard to my change, not sure how you calculated 1/2".........I was 1/8 x 5/8 and I am now 5/16 x 7/16. How do you calculate 1/2" here?
