GebhardtsBowling.com - feedback wanted
« on: August 08, 2020, 05:20:19 PM »
Anyone ever use Gebhardts for drilling a ball?  I'm thinking of ordering a ball from them online and possibly having them drill it copying my specs from a ball that would be shipped to them, using their $50 Perfect Fit program.  Looking for feedback before I proceed.  Thanks.

Unfortunately,  buddies pro shop doesn't have any more of the closeout ball I'm looking for., otherwise I'd buy from them.  Any idea on whether Gebhardt is good for buying and drilling?

I have been to Gebhardts physical location in Allentown PA many times and purchased various items from them.  The people that work there are great and very helpful.  However I have never had a ball drilled there.  The workshop they have is large and there are always numerous balls on the workbench so they seem to do a healthy drilling business.

I have only ever had one ball drilled via mail order (not from Gebhardts) and it wasn't all I hoped it would be.  The shop did offer to have me send the ball back to be adjusted, but I didn't want the hassle.  So I eventually had the ball fixed locally, used it for maybe 15 games, and then gave it to someone else.

Personally, I would only do drilling by mail as a last resort or if you know you typically don't need a ton of tweaks or adjustments to your fit.

I would never do it unless I had moved to a different city and was using the same trusted driller I used before I had moved.  I am going through that very thing myself.  Even though I live in Tampa, FL.  I still go to the pro shop operator I have trusted for 20 years and lives in Atlanta, GA. The problem is typically minor adjustments are always needed, especially from those that havent drilled for you before.  The ball driller I have trusted for more than 20 years always makes sure fit is where the bowler wants it even before gluing in the inserts.  That includes bowlers who have had multiple balls drilled by him over many years.  Even my 25 year old son who uses Switch Grip has told me that when he uses a different ball driller that the fit doesnt quite feel the same.  Ultimately it is up to you.  But I think its a risk having someone drill a ball you have never even met before.  As Bowler19525 mentioned; he didnt like the result and ended up giving the ball to someone else.

Thanks everyone for the opinions.  I think I'll go ahead and just order the ball itself with no drilling service, better safe than sorry.  If Buddies had the ball, I'd feel comfortable with them drilling it based on all of the positive experiences people have with them drilling.  Not sure when my local guy will be available ti drill again since all of the bowling alleys are closed here in Washington state, but I'll just store the ball until they open.
