Only $44 to my location.
…… you can't  add a physics term to a bowling term and expect it to mean something.

Try shipping to Hawaii, now that's crazy priced shipping!  I think the last time I inquired at an online proshop, the price quote was over a $100 for a 4 ball bag.

Same here.

That's exactly right.

I have a 3 ball slimline tote (the one that you use for airlines to get under the weight limit) that I was going to sell, but shipping is crazy.  I got a good deal on it because I also bought 2 cases of balls, but shipping was going to be close to what I paid for the bag.  Hard to sell when Buddies can offer free shipping over $50, and UPS is telling me it is going to be $40 to ship across the country!

The bag is only 4-5lbs, so I think the package was around 8lbs.   Funny thing was that I could ship it with 3 15lb balls for just a few dollars more!   UPS dimension shipping rates are crazy....but I guess the box takes up precious space on the truck/plane!

Edit:  Strange.  When I check it on UPS now, shipping just a tote is around $20.  Adding 3 balls jumps it up to $77!

When I was looking to sell before, it was around $35 to ship just the tote, and adding 3 balls took it to $45.

Here is the UPS dimensional weight stuff:  http://www.ups.com/content/us/en/resources/ship/packaging/dim_weight.html

Its total crap!  Weight of the box almost doesnt mean as much anymore.  A light object that needs a big box is going to cost more than a heavier object in a small box.  What sense does that make?

For the cost they are screwing you for shipping charges, one is just better off going straight to a pro shop.

As a pro shop owner I agree....stop buying online if you don't like it.  However this is very common on ebay now to build more cost into the shipping so the auction can end with low bids.  My wife sells quite a bit on there and that's how she does it.

Again if you don't like it...don't click "place bid"

Absolutely.  I'm convinced the only one that makes money is UPS!  I thought eBay was to somehow crack down on high handling fees in order to avoid paying them based on ending auction price.

It's just more whining for stupid crap....it's not like it's a "hidden fee".  It plainly tells you how much shipping is before you place your bid.  Unless you can't handle 1st grade addition then it is simple to find out how much you're really paying for an item.  If you think it's too much....don't buy it.

Or you can come on a message board and cry about it....

So if the ending bid is $30 plus $51 shipping....$81 right?

Do you think ebay cracking down on shipping is going to magically keep the bid at $30 and shipping at $15?....it may if everyone was mentally handicapped and unable to read.

Fortunately most people have some sort of cognitive functioning in math...so the ending bid would end up being closer to $65....

eBay changed their policies not too long ago, where fees are based on the final cost including shipping and handling.  No more $1 auctions and $100 S/H to avoid fees.

How's the bowling biz?

Back in 2010 you said:

I'm going to be the skeptic here...if you have a passion for the game that is understandable, but from a logical perspective let's look at the reality.

Bowling is in serious decline, most of the mid-major manufacturers and brand names have been sold due to a lack of profitability (Track, Hammer, Roto Grip).  Brunswick moved its operation south of the border because it couldn't maintain a competitive profit here in the US.

Even if you are successful, you are going after a dwindling customer base.  League bowlers are down 70% since 1980, and will continue to do so until there is noone left.  You might as well take whatever capital you were going to invest in it and burn it.  The game isn't growing, and won't for some time soon (until USBC is gone).

I just think you are wasting your money...

It's doing what it needs to do for me...I lost my job in finance 3 weeks after that post in 2010.  The pro shop was something I had experience in, I was good at, and would allow me to go back to school...not to mention I enjoy it.  I am still pessimistic about the future, and if I was depending on this business to put my kids through school or retire I would be VERY worried.

For now it will do :)

fedex and ups are all dimensional weights now, IE size of the volume of the box dictates price, three ball roller totes tho can be crammed into smaller boxes for a cheaper price, 4 ball stackable rollers are now about 75 bucks to ship unless you have a great shipper account
