Online/Brick & Mortar Shops beware of scammers.
« on: May 23, 2007, 03:45:26 PM »
Hey guys, sparatically for the past 2 weeks I've been getting random phone calls from out of state/country(?) callers asking if we take orders over the phone/through email and promising to use "certified credit cards or certified cashiers checks".  Beware as these are scammers from the islands or overseas.  I've recently received an email letter from "Good People's Sporting Supply" which is a company that claims to be based out of the Bahamas that has expanded to the US and are trying to use different sporting goods suppliers to sell them equipment.  I'm thinking with either stolen or bogus funds as it all reeks of a scamming nature.  They claim to have "associates" in the states that will act as middlemen in picking up equipment and paying for it.  Beware as I think we've ran into one this week already.

If anyone would like the emails then email me and I'll forward them, my email is in my profile.  The phone numbers are coming from an (804) area code and sometimes it'll show up "restricted" or "wireless caller".

804 area code is the Richmond Virginia area, if that helps or means anything to anyone.

MSNBC actually had a show about this, its like the “To Catch a Predator show”, its called “To Catch a I.D Thief” They steal Credit Card info, buy the stuff and then ship it to a women here in the States who the guy has convinced that he is in love with her and wants to marry her. She will then ship the stuff to him and then they go to customs and before it can be delivered, they pick up the package. Here is  the link to the show http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17938789/
