hello
how do they compare to the abralon ones?? I have seen a sanding "paper" made with this name on it for woodwork, is it the same company?? is the grit on a abralon pad(say 1k) the same as the micro pad?? are they made out of the same materials?? does anyone know where I can get some to try for myself?? how do they compare cost wise?? thankss for any info.. slashrr69

Both Abralon and Siaair Velvet are both graded using the European or FEPA standard. All grit levels should be indicated with "P" before the number and the grits should be indentical. They both use the same abrasive that is on wet/dry sandpaper: silicon carbide.

Both are backed by a foam that absorbs water and conforms to a ball''s surface easily with your hand as a backing.

For whatever reason the Siaair seems to me to last a little longer and they are slightly cheaper.

I got mine from a woodworking company called Grizzly. They sell them in 5" and 6" diameters. For the additional money, the 6" ones seema better value. Abralon comes in only 6" sizes.

i thawt the abralon grit number are from europe not america... 1000 abralon and a 1000 sia are different?

NO!

Both the Siaair and Abralon use the same grading system, FEPA.

FYI all manufacturers, including those in the United States are going to the FEPA standard. In fact, most (no, not every one yet) American abrasive manufacturers have already gone over to the FEPA standard. You'll see that most grit levels, even on plain sandpaper, as well as wet/dry sandpaper have the grit number preceded by a "P" to indicate they are FEPA grade.

I am finding it hard to find sandpaper that uses the CAMI standard.

By the way, the main reason is that the FEPA standard allows for less variation than the CAMI standard in the size of the particles placed on or in the holding matrix. For example, on a 100 grit CAMI sandpaper, the particles can actually vary from 50 grit to 150 grit, while under the FEPA standard the particle size is only allowed to vary from 80 to 120 grit. So the grit levelyou get from using a FEPA abrasive is more uniform and closer to what the abrasive says it is.

^^^^^^^^^^ ok, im 99.999945% sure valentino was getn the "valentino pads" from sia abrasives... they said the numbers/grits were different than abralon.. as they were true grits. ppl were sayn abralons were off?

(1000 being like 2000, 4000 being like 5000 or 6000 and so forth)
