Local pro shops???

Before everyone thinks that I am cutting online proshops down I am not. I know that everyone is looking for anyway to make the almighty dollar. What I am confused about however is you hear all the time about supporting your local proshop and then you hear ads for online proshops. Is the local proshop becoming a thing of the past with all of the online proshops or will they just be there to fix equipment? I am guilty just as much as the next person of not supporting the local proshops to try to save myself some $$$. I know that in the wonderful state that I live in that there are becoming fewer proshops that I would trust to drill for me. I do see a lot of people righting reviews from online proshops on here and once again I am not bashing you guys at all. I have looked at the prices and they are AWSOME compared to local centers up here for the same ball. Just looking for some thoughts on this.....

I've just started buying on line in late July of this year. I had no other choice and was forced to do it because:

1. My Pro Shop does not carry Lane 1 balls and his distributor does not handle them. I asked him to contact Lane 1 about buying direct from them and he said he couldn't do that.

2. His drilling is not good. Pitches and spans off more than slightly from ball to ball, so I have no choice but to also get the balls drilled on line

Brickguy221 I do see where you are coming from. Yes I understand that buying online and then if you get it drilled have to pay extra. The center that I use to manage the fee was $40 if ball not bought there to drill. I to am getting stuff drilled out of town, state due to having found somebody that drills my equipment to fit to a T to where I would not trust anybody here to do that.

So you saved money good for that always up to save money. I see where your local shop is a little happy due to not having to have that many balls on hand and not worry about not selling them. The center that I use to manage is still sitting on 8 balls from 2 yrs ago. On the other hand though that is also money that your local center is not making. If I had to buy a ball between the internet and the local center I would go support the local center even if it is $20-$40 more. Yes I have bought stuff at nationals and get my current equipment out of state due to my friend that works for a ball company. If it was not for that I would still be getting everything from my local center. Once again back to my original question is the local pro shop becoming a thing of the past in most areas? Seeing more and more shops open for just fixing equipment or closed period.

As far as suportting my local pro shop, I don't because the guy really dosn't have the knowlegde of the balls. So I drive 20 minutes to the pro shop and buy from him, he has been doing me very good, and will compete with the internet price.

I am for supporting your local Pro Shop, if you have a knowledgable one or even have a shop to go to. I have al;ways supported my local Pro Shop and have never bought any balls and had them drilled online until 3 months ago. Why did I switch? Because my local Pro Shop isn't run by an accurate driller any more, unless you're satisified with variances up to 1/8"+.

This left me no other choice than to go "on-line" and find a good reliable and accurate drilling Pro Shop.

What would you have done? Keep going to your local Pro Shop and getting every ball drilled wrong, or go on line and get every ball drilled right?

Yes I see that point. I agree if your local pro shop is not able to drill consistent then I would leave as well. Going back to my original point though you hear a lot of the pros talk about supporting your local center and pro shop but right after that you hear a commercial for example bowlersparadise.com. To me that is so confusing. Maybe it is just me. I am fully supportive of anybody who wants to make a buck hell I would love to be making that buck. Yes I know that places will charge you for buying a ball somewhere else and bringing it in to drill there. The center I use to work at would charge $40 where as if you bought the ball there drilling included like most shops. Just Wanted to hear other peoples thoughts on this.
