Hole Pounder Pearl Review and video
« on: December 16, 2006, 07:09:43 AM »
I got my Hole Pounder Pearl a little over a week ago.  I punched it up with my standard drill, pin over the bridge, and the cg out at the 5 o’clock position.  It has about a 2 ¾” pin.  It is a 16 lb ball and I normally throw it 18.5 to 19.5 mph at the pins.

Here is a video I made.   It was filmed after leagues, so the shot has already been opened up.

I thought this ball was going to be a skid/flip ball, but I was wrong.  On fresh oil, I play slower and more down-and-in, the ball goes straight, and then rolls over and arcs hard into the pocket.  I normally stand on the center dot as a reference point.  I now start off 2-3 boards right of center.  Once the shot starts to break down (normally late 2nd game) I can start moving left and eventually wind up swinging it.  Depending on how the lane is acting, I can wind up as far as 5-6 boards left of center.  The ball then takes on a really nice, hard arc into the pocket.  This ball really likes you to come around on it to make it turn the corner.  The more revs you put on it, the more it arcs instead of flips over.  If you do happen to slow it down, though, it will take off on you, but such is the nature of pearlized balls.

The only negative I have with it so far (and not really the ball’s fault) is that on a fresh oiled pair, with my speed I can throw the ball through the breakpoint.  Once I recognized that, though, and adjusted my game, I was able to hit the pocket at will.  This last Wednesday, I went 235, 226, 255 for a 716 series.  I was clean the whole night, with only one shot that checked up early and went through the nose.  Everything else was in the pocket.  All the spares were 9-count leaves.  I’m very happy with this ball.

One interesting note about the ball is the coverstock.  I don’t know what is in it, but it’s not like anything I have in my bag or have really seen.  I’ve got over 30 games on this ball already, and the cover looks brand new.  I haven’t cleaned it yet, and there are no track lines, no oil rings, nothing!  Also, the cover is still squeaky clean feeling.  A very interesting and intriguing coverstock to say the least.  I was wondering if anyone else noticed this too, or if my situation was unique?

Thank you Banger, and I look forward to the Hole Pounder Solid next and the Hole Finder after the New Year.  Keep Bangin’ them!

PS. This is the first video I've ever made.  Wish I had a better camera.  Anyway, let me know what you guys think.
