I am still waiting for mine to come in.  However, Legends has a new website up and you might be able to find more information there.

I threw a couple of games with a New Standard today on what I gauge is a true medium-heavy oil pattern, based on the reactions of 2 other balls that I know, on Brunswick AnvilLanes synthetic surface.

Medium heavy is not enough oil for a New Standard. Drilled 4 1/4 x 5" with pin next to ring finger, about 2 3/4" above midline, MB roughly 7 1/2" from PAP, to the left of the thumb hole. Ball had box finish, approx 800 grit smooth.

The ball did not hook and set, but was just short of that. I'd guess the RG differential prevented the "set" motion. It started grabbing fairly early, approx 35 feet down. It went into hook cycle around 38-40' down.

When I got to the pocket, high enough not to leave 10 pins, the sound was like no other ball I have ever thrown. Pins acted/sounded like they weighed 2 lbs. My Intense hit equally hard, sending pins everywhere, but the sound was different.

7 was the breakpoint for these lanes. I walk straight toward my target.
So to hit 7 board,
with the Intense I started with left foot on board 18-20.
With the Mojo, I stood on board 23-25.
with the New Standard, I stood on board 35.
ALl balls were drilled the same; Mojo had slightly polish. Intense is box.

It's far too early for a complete review, of course. This is what I've seen so far.

I have to polish the New Standard slightly, at a minimum. I have never seen enough oil in the last 20+ years that I'd need it in its box surface of 800 grit.

More later.

Looking forward to hearing more about it, charlest.  From the sound of it, I probably never see enough oil to put this one to use.

I don't know how much this will help anyone since I can't get real technical about drilling or oil patterns, but I got the Yeah Baby last week.  I usually have my balls drilled 3 3/8 by 3 3/8 with pin over ring(I have slow ball speed), but my pro shop guy said he wanted me to try pin under ring, so I said O.K. and it seemed to work well. First use was on wood lanes, medium oil, clean backends.  It was a really strong arc--almost skid/snap.  I usually leave a lot of 10-pins, but only 2 in all three games. A couple of shots didn't look like strikes to me, but they all fell down.  Second use was on synthetics, heavier oil that carried down quickly.  I noticed other bowlers struggle during third game with the carrydown, but the Yeah Baby didn't seem to care.  Reaction was smoother arc.  I would love to watch someone that bowls well bowl with this ball.

haven't had much time; I wrote this to a friend, but realize this was again, only one small test. Haven't had enough personal time to ring this ball out, although the signs are very promising:

"9/19/2004 6:29:45 AM
I threw the polished New Standard a few games (on Thursday, I think) on a medium-heavy to heavy oil pattern. I was surprised to see this much oil in open bowling. Made me wonder if they're preparing for a tournament ...

Anyway, the polish I used was Legends own, the one that came with the ball. It went on a little strange in that it didn't seem to shine that much until I cleaned off the residue. Then it was a "nice" shine, but not a high gloss one. Good thing it was. The ball's length was much longer, I guess maybe 8 ft more. BUT remember, this was a combination of heavier oil PLUS the polish.

Anyway, I was almost playing an outside line for me: feet about 23/25 board, target was 7 board at 40/42 feet, crossing the arrows around 13/14. The ball never flipped, did a gradual arc, apparently reading the midlane as it should. When it hit, the pins stayed low and the 10 pin ALWAYS got hit by something. Never had that happen before. Between this and the new Intense Inferno, I may hurt myself by using any other balls on anything heavier than medium oil."

Still this is only just another small part of the testing and must not be construed as a full test.

We had a heavy handed medium speed individual pick up a New standard and has thrown it a few games. I was quite suprised by the amount of entry angle this ball generated on a med house shot. He was playing well within the oil line and bumping the dry. Ball had just too much backend move. If it were me with this ball I might have tried a tighter line in the oil. It had a very particle look in its roll but its turn was very pronounced. (Pocket 8's and 9's more than 10 pins) He has struggled so far and we will be working with him this week. Ball drill pin over ring cg out an inch. I definitely wouldn't recommend this for slow revvers from what we have seen so far. I would love to try one for opening up a lane on med-heavy conditions.

Leftyhi-trak,

AFter only 2 practice sessions of about 3 games each, I, of course, can't publish a real review, but it's beginning to seem like this ball has a huge capacity for drilling optionswith its huge RG differential/flare and with how well it gets thru the heads with the least bit of polish.

I am imagining trying this ball with both pin on or near axis, which I never do, and with pin out by the track (6 1/2" - 7" pin), which I've done only twice. Can't say for sure, but I am very intrigued so far.
