Strapper,
I originally got the YB just to compare it to my NS. So I drilled it indentically, took it out to a place with oil and played the same line as my NS. The NS reacted its normal way - great! loud CRACK at the pocket. I loved it; still love it. 1 game to warm up; then 1 game to line up and see what line to play and finished up.
Then played the same line with the YB. It went fine, a little longer, and then hooked properly, or so it seems. It was a nice clean shot in practice. I left 8, count 'em EIGHT!, solid and weak 10 pins on what seemed perfect shots over 11 allowable balls in that game. I was scratching my head, wanting to throw it in the river. Very frustrating. Very! a lot of money down the drain. (Yes, I am drawing this out.)
Then, it occurred to me that they said this was a stronger ball, more overall hook. So, just for fun and a little bit desperate, I moved a little deeper, about 3 boards, with the same breakpoint. Hmm, it was hitting better and coming off the breakpoint a little stronger. Still left a few 10 pins, but less. every few frames I moved a little deeper still.
Now, of course, some of this was the house shot, but these lanes are slippery than a greased eel Brunswick AnvilLanes. If you ain't got enough ball and enough hand that ball ain't coming back on these suckers.
I wound up moving 10 boards with my feet keeping the same breakpoint. The ball was in its freaking glory. TEN BOARDS DEEPER I had to play. I threw more messengers and kicked out more 4 pins than I dream about.
The ball had its stock cover and was drilled label leverage, true 3.5" from pin to PAP.
I have no idea why yours didn't hook.
