I have been looking for a ball to fit between my NS2 and Satisfaxion and had talked with Galen at LaneMasters and he suggested I try a Masterpiece with the shine broken down.  I was talking with Ball Death and he told me that the Big Kahuna was a very overlooked ball in the Legends lineup and that I should give it a try.  I'm glad I did!  I drilled it 4 1/2 x 4, pin under the ring with the weight hole on the VAL down in the thumb quadrant.  The BK clears the heads much easier than the NS2 (no surpise here) but seems to have a much bigger footprint in the back.  I can swing the BK much more than the NS2 and still carry the corners.  I had an 811 in league last night, 278-257 (missed a 10 pin!!!!)-276.  Last week I had a 711 and that weekend in the Senior Masters I had a 758.  I can't believe some of the ground this balls covers in the back and still carries!  I haven't had a chance to try this on tougher conditions but for the THS pattern this ball has been fantastic.  The lanes are AMF synthetics with a typical tophat with clean to medium backends.

JS--Sounds like you match up well with it on your lane condition.  Congrats on the great score!!!

I tried one but didn't match up as well with it.  Mine was 4 1/2 pin over ring and 3 1/2".  Mine just wasn't the correct layout for me and the lane condition I normally see or use it on.  Kept leaving ringing 10's.  Ball to late in pocket.  Adjusted cover but it didn't matter.

How does the BK compare to your Kong?

shame on you for not telling how well this was going, til now.
missed you last thursday at SnS. was my last day for a few weeks.

Have you tried the Kahuna at SnS?

Thanks Scott.  In terms of the Kong, which is drilled the same as the BK, they both get through the heads clean (Kong gets slightly more length) but the BK has more recovery.  The best way I can describe it is the BK has a very strong arc and the Kong has more of a sharper, smaller break.  I get more forgiveness from the BK if I get it a little too wide.  The BK also handles carrydown better.  The Kong needs clean backends to perform.

charlest....it seems like I haven't seen you there in weeks.  I did try the BK in SnS but by the time I get on at 9:30pm the heads are gone and the BK grabs way too soon.  I'm toying with the idea of drilling up another one with a different layout and high shine and see if that may work.  I'm grinding out low 6's each week but nothing big.  I'm also interested to see what the 3 new releases from LaneMasters may be like.  We already know something about the Straight Flush (that it's for dry lanes - maybe like the Desert Heat?) but I haven't heard anything about the Big Bang or World Class, have you?

a few weeks i had to leave early; 1 or 2 weeks i waited, looked and didn't see you or your wife. a couple weeks i had to leave right away or i would have done something i regretted. .

with its low rg differential, i wouldn't change the pin position very much; the polish will make a big change if it's like any of the other legend diamond balls.

last time i talked to them the straight flush wasn't getting enough backend to make them happy. I worry that it will backend too much for a dry lane ball.
haven't heard anything about the other two balls. wonder how different they can be.

they could use a light oil control ball.
