That is crazy to me.  How did you find the core patent?  That is pretty sweet.

Only if he and people then had known what he actually had. He was way ahead of time with that core!

I've had two of the black axes in the past.  First one was while in jr's many, many years ago.  I threw it several years, then packed it away when I purchased something new...  well back in my early college days, I pulled the ball out and shot back to back 700's with it in league (able to play up the boards w/out over reaction).  A guy in my league offered me an insane amout of money for the ball, so I sold it.  A couple years back, I found a NIB one on eBay and purchased it... I drilled it up, but quickly realized that 16lb equipment just wasn't for me.  Still, a great ball though.  If I could find one in 14lb or 15lb, I would hold on to it!

Yes I agree this ball's core was way ahead of its time similiar to the Brunswick phantoms, nobody really undersstood the core or knew what to do with them.  id love to find a 16lb axe or phantom to test out with todays drill patterns..

Yes, Bill, I'm the guy who bought your Axe from you.
I'm persistent, I know, and thanks for your assistance. (even though you told me not to drill it)

Its drilled up and ready to rip tomorrow during league.

I'll be testing it out during the 3rd game, piping it up 1st arrow when everyone has migrate left.

Will update in the morning.

Per the drill sheet its drilled for "Heavy Oil" 50° up from the midline. LOL.

PAP 4 3/4" Over 3/8" Up, Medium Revs, 45° Axis rotation, which may need to be even higher for the ball to turn properly.

Update:

This ball is SICK NASTY on drier lanes.

Bowled on a 3rd shift (2 uses) house shot, spotty heads and lite to no carry down.

Piped this bad boy up the 7 board, rolls up around 35 feet, moves towards the pocket in a fairly aggressive manner for urethane.

This ball loves area to the right, carry increases with more dry boards.
If I pulled it into the oil however, the carry suffered, I even left a stone 9.

only full game with it: 258

this ball proves that you dont need "hook in a box" to be successful on a house shot, just be accurate, and use a predictable ball with a core that will carry.

I highly suggest this ball if you find one available, you will not find a ball like this anywhere on the current market to fill a dry lane need with a big 10-15 board move on the back with control.

This ball can only be pried from my cold dead hands, this one is with me for life.

Thanks go out to Bill from buddiesproshop.com for selling me this ball, it truly is a gem, and a one of a kind piece of equipment.

Glad to hear people like their AXE as much as I do.  I have both the black, and the blue AXE.  You can definitely throw the blue AXE in the oil.  The difference in the shells is much like the original blue and black Hammer.  The blue AXE will give you a bit more 'recovery' than the black, but I love the way the black hits when the condition is there for it.
Good Luck with it !

NHS,

There is a reason for the similarities to the old hammers.  The F at the end of JPF stands for Fabinich.  As in Faball.

The black was great.  A friend still has the one he drilled up and he won't sell it to me.

Also, it seems as though I remember two versions of the dull blue model.  One supposedly had the same core as the black one, the other had just a simple "pancake" core.

P.S.  Didn't these come in left or right handed versions?

Yes, they did come in left and right hand versions.  The balls were marked 'RH' or 'LH', right under the label. I have the original drilling instructions. If you're interested, let me know and I can e-mail them to you.  There's even a cut-away picture of the ball, that shows the shape of the weight block.
I've never heard that there was an AXE with a pancake weight block.

I'm going to use this ball this upcoming wednesday for league bowling, at least during practice to see the look i'd get on a crisp house shot with too much over/under. This ball should do the job nicely.

I'll give another update then.

I got a chance to throw the JPF Black Axe Urethane on a fresh house shot today.

Throughout practice, I got a great smooth look from it, break point was about at the 4 board at about 40 feet, then came rumbling back.

started the first game X X X X 7/ 9/ 7-1

After the first few frames, I was already seeing how hyper sensitive this ball can be to just a hint of carry down, tug this ball a touch, and it skates right into the 3 pin flush.

Switched to the Original Inferno and went 198 to finish the game and 266 in the 2nd game.

Really a dry lane ball, but I figured to give it a shot.
It really makes Over/Under Non-Existent, a thing of beauty.

John Fabanich really had a winner.

You're right that the black AXE has to have some dry boards to come hard.  I have a blue AXE drilled identical to my black AXE, and the reaction is totally different.  I tend to keep the blue AXE fairly dull, and it can roll up pretty strong in the oil, or recover (a bit) when it has to.  Obviously it doesn't have near the area of a reactive ball, but it's great not to have to deal with the over/under .
By the way, there is a blue and a black AXE on ebay right now.(16lb.)  If you like the black, you'll love the hit of the blue AXE.
