Just got this email yesterday. Looks as though Brian Graham is behind this. Everything he touches is good stuff. Looks like this is just a spinoff of Brunswick, kind of like Quantum was. Not positive about that. Trying to verify it.
On edit: It is from Brunswick, but is being treated as a separate brand identity. I have our trade show next week and all of it will be there.

One note that seems to have been avoided so far ---
This brand seems to be being treated as if all releases were intended to attract teenage boys with very aggressive sounding names and with all balls being designed to provide strong skid/flip type of reactions. The mildest Breakpoint shape so far is a Brunswick "90". Here's a quote from Brian Graham:
" .... The DV8 brand will have an edgier feel with marketing and ball names, and the DV8 branded bowling balls will provide more length and more aggressive backend reaction. DV8 will show its aggressive personality via the website, advertising, and in the products themselves. "
I do have to say that color schemes do appear different and interesting. Plus surface and drillings can almost always go a ways toward making skid/flip balls more controllable, if that is needed.

It is not another ball company....it is another brand from a manufacturer...not much different than Roto Grip under Storm or when Ebonite bought Columbia & Track. It is another avenue for Brunswick to release a new level of reactions that most Brunswick loyalists would like or be interested in.

Definitely agree with Charlest as to market segment- aimed at teens who want to skid flip from 4 lanes away.
Rico, I always respect your opinion, typically spot on target. You may very well be right. I guess time will tell. Not sure though, this one feels different than a Roto/Storm differentiation. It will be interesting to see if the market segment they have clearly targeted respond with sales. Something to watch...

The names and website seem to appeal to a younger crowd.
The colors seem to appeal to more.
Similar with Track/Hammer on some of their newer bowling balls the past few years and Brunswick with the Slingshots and T-Zones. I think you will see some others trying to capitalize on really bright/out there colors.

If all they wanted to do was appeal to the cosmic bowler they would not need the high performance pieces they've introduced. They would not sign any PBA talent, either. They can appeal to the typical cosmic bowler with their existing Viz-A-Ball line-up.
These are pieces that will perform, but with some new color schemes. The release date is six weeks away. Give it some time before you bury the idea. I personally think that a high performance piece with a 2 year warranty has some appeal to a much broader market.

DV8 says they want to appeal to the "younger" crowd. Those names and colors seem to reinforce that concept.
But, hey! Don't forget that Hammer has been doing the same thing without specifically indicating their intended market. Look at the color schemes and, in particular, the names of some of their more recent balls: Arson, Brawl, Infection, Taboo, Plague, Backlash. Hardly "mild-mannered" names. Plus look at their designed in ball reaction,especially in the Vibe line. Every pearl since the Emerald is designed to go longer and snap harder than the previous one. Almost everything they've done is what DV8 says they will do. AND it's been very successful for Hammer. How can DV8 not do the same, if they follow the proper marketing path and get some winners into the public's view, like Hammer & Bill O'Neill.did???
Of course it doesn't look good for DV8 if even an old fart like I like the appearance & color schemes of their new balls.

From the email I received about the new balls. The Misfit is the onlly one that is for the cosmic bowling and that's their entry level ball. It's actually more than an entry level ball in performance, but it does appeal to a wider range of bowlers. I've been a big fan of Brunswick for many years and this type of reaction is what was missing from their lineup! I'm a senior bowler and these bowling balls have a high appeal rating to me, cause I like the reaction as much as the cool color schemes!!! Just my $.02, Bruce

I am not burying the idea, in fact it might be a new and growing market. But I could tell by the video that one of these balls was made for cosmic bowling, glow in the dark type.
Who knows it could get some young people into bowling and then into some leagues, grow the base.

Well, if Choogs says the colors make the balls special, then it must be so!
I don't know, Choogs is looking pretty worn out. I don't know that he appeals to those "ruff" teenage boys, and Deuce better hurry up and get tatted up.....or grow some facial hair or something.
I had my 16 year old nephew check it out and he doesn't think either guy looks "edgy," "reckless," or "outrageous."
Some more of his thoughts: experience has been that the market that they appear to be targeting generally resists anything that comes right and tells them that they are targeting them. "Hey you, cool kid. Yeah you. You're cool. And so is are product. That's right, we made this cool product for cool guys like you. So go buy are stuff, because it's cool....and so are you!" That kind of stuff usually ends up being labelled "lame."
But whatever, it's a line of bowling balls. If the product is good, people will buy it.

Just because a ball glows under blacklight does not mean it's sole purpose is cosmic bowling. It's just an added bonus and selling point to some of the more recreational bowlers. It looks as all of their balls offer this feature, even the "PRO PERFORMANCE" Hell Raiser.
Remember the Quasar ball from Ebonite....now that was a ball designed for cosmic bowling, wasn't even legal to use in competition.
