Bowler's Paradise Elite Part VII
« on: June 21, 2005, 02:34:42 PM »
I just got an email from Paradise saying they were given the right by ELite to advertise the balls anyway they see fit. (HunH?? They gave themselves permission?? DOn;t they "own" ELite?)

Anyway, 2 ball combinations, like the R43 plus the P43, were for sale for $175 for the pair, which is much cheaper than previously.

However, knowing what they have done via some previous ballreviews posts, I sent them this reply:

"I'm not sure what you guys don't get?

If these balls were 2 for $50 I wouldn't buy them WITHOUT knowing what the coverstocks are and what the core looks like and what its specs are.

Period. end of story."

OK OK..enough is enough... Who remembers the Quantum line? Anyone? Apparently not, cause if I'm not mistaken, they used the Mushroom core. But, when Brunswick released these cores in the Monster series noone jumped on them for passing off old cores in new balls! As a matter of fact, some will argue that the Fire Quantum is possibly the best ball ever. As a matter of fact, check out this pic of the Fire Quantum:

http://www.bowlingballreviews.com/ball.asp?ballid=2125

OOPS...I'm sorry, I guess if you've seen one...[taking deep breath] Light burgundy colored ball, with yellow logos, with a mushroom core, with a Brunswick PK coverstock...you've seen 'em all!!!

What everyones problem is, is that they want the next greatest thing. I know that I like new equipment, but you know what? If my old Cuda/C can still knock em down just fine, then why am I going to complain if they re-release the core/cover combination? As a matter of fact, I'll pick another one up! They're trying to make a few bucks...can't get mad at a buisness for that. Unfortunatly, their scheme was found out. I think there's plenty of good reviews on our site talking about how good the Monster Bruiser is...so why wouldn't the Elite Whatchamadoohickie 47 be just as good of a ball? Cause it doesn't have an over-sized letter "B" stamped on it? I myself, would love to get one of the alien balls, to sit next to my clearballs Alien Head!

PS...I don't remember seeing ANYONE get on Columbia's @$$ when they released the Flipside Wild, which was a Scout/R...but $10 MORE in price...guess it's cause they didn't try to start a new company with it?!?

BigWilly your missing our point totaly, nothing wrong with rereleases nothing at all.  Whats wrong is that until now we didn't know what exactly these rereleases were.  And rereleased balls costing $159.99.  Sure they rereleased quantums as MOnsters but how much do monsters cost $90.  The deception and the price is what we are complaining about.  They basically started out until now providng almost no info on their balls calling them High performance and trying to get a premium for them.  That is the disgusting part of it all.  If they had been up front and showed core pics and information from the very beginning then even the price thing wouldn't be as bad but they did't.  The bottom line is they were deceptive from the start and that I cannot tolerate as a bowler/consumer.

But, and this is a huge but, those Slay/Rs and Brusiers went for $65-85 not $160!!

My problem is they are trying to sell balls without telling customers what they are. We have no idea what the coverstocks are what the core and its specs are.

Indeed,  it was and another problem is their trying to pass off new labeled balls as new designs worth something special when they are not.

But it wasn't the same; it had a solid polished Super-Flex cover, not a pearlized one. And on the internet it was $.50 more.

It's not using "old cores in new balls" that's the problem.  Notice that the Monster line is priced quite a bit lower than the Inferno line.  And that the Monsters, when they were called "Quantums", cost quite a bit more.  The problem with Elite was that they were selling older cores/covers for prices higher than Infernos.  The R43 was essentially a Bruiser for twice the price.  I know I'd be pissed off, even if it is a good ball (which wasn't REALLY the issue).  If they priced the ball competitively with the Monster line, I don't think anyone would be quite as upset.

Elite felt they could get away with that by not providing details of their balls when EVERY OTHER MANUFACTURER does so.  Bucking the standard industry practice like that is dishonest.  If I bought the ball for a Monster price and found out it was essentially a Monster line ball with different logos, I might still be upset, but not nearly as much as if I had paid a Lane 1 price.  It may be that i ruled out getting a Monster for a specific reason (i.e., had one before and didn't like it or I already have one) and now I've done the same thing without meaning to.

Looks like Charlest explained it well.  It's about price.  If Elite priced the balls (like the Bruiser copy-off) like they are worth, and didn't try to pass them off as "new", I wouldn't care at all.

But I still don't understand why you're not complaining about the inferno series, when brunswick admits that the core shape does not matter (hence, no r and d needed to reconfigure the core) and they have the exact same cover on the zone line of balls. Of course, I've always believed high end balls to be a complete scam and rip off, hence the reason why i will not buy them. Is there really any reaction from any ball that cannot be replicated from a different mid-priced ball with different cover prep and drill pattern.

It's because the cores aren't the same!  If the inferno had the same exact core as the zone classic, THEN you could make a point.  But THEY DON'T.  THAT is the point.  THe elite balls have the same exact cores as monster balls, and most likely the same covers.  THAT is the problem.

IIRC, the claim was that core shape differences are not relevant *for balls with the same RG and differentials.*

The asymmetric Zones have an intermediate RG differential significantly larger than anything in the Inferno series, so the numbers would be different.
