ASU stands for Award Scores Unlimited.  If I remember correctly, the company was originally started by two guys in a pro shop in Michigan.  The balls were originally manufactured by Brunswick, I believe, than they switched to Storm.  If you find an old Lichstein's ball guide on the net from like 94 or 96 most of their balls should be listed.  There was the Patriot, the Cheetah, and the Perfect Piece series of balls.  I've hunted down 4 or 5 Orange Cheetah's over the years.  One of my favorites of all time.  They had a Decagon weight block sort of like the Lane 1 Diamond.  I also have a Black Cheetah NIB as well as a Perfect Piece.  The Black Cheetah looks like it has a Brunswick serial number/engraving.  All of the Orange Cheetahs and the Perfect Piece look like Storm serials/engraving.

I'm pretty sure the Patriot also had the Decagon weight block surrounded by solid urethane.  All the ones I've seen looked like they were made by Brunswick.  There was also a Patriot Special Addition, but that one was reactive and I believe manufactured by Storm.  

Around 96-97, the founders split up.  The company continued on as Ballistik and came out with balls such as the Bommerang, the Boomerang Supreme and the Kryptonite.  The Kryptonite is my all time favorite ball.  It has a modified decagon core with storm's "PowerBall" in the center, the coverstock is similar to the Cadmium one on Storm's Eraser Boost.  Green/Yellow with a really heavy mica load (big chunks).

Thanks for all of the information.  The diamond shaped block is the only type that I had heard anything about before.  I haven't had it drilled yet, and just wanted to be able to give my ball driller something to go on.

I've never heard of Ballistik, or any of their line of balls. Most of the guys here seem to stick pretty much to the big name manufacturers.  Any solid colored ball sticks out like a sore thumb on the rack these days

KOTM, thanks for the added info.  ASU is a hard company to track down information on.  I was born in 1980, and the Orange Cheetah was my third bowling ball.  I've only seen a few of the Patriots over the years.  I didn't know GemTek made the original balls.  I guess they were making quite a few balls back then.  They did the manufacturing for JPF as well, didn't they.  

I had always assumed that the decagon weight black was their signature like the diamond from Lane 1.  I thought one of the old Lichstein's Ball guides mentioned the Cheetahs as having a "ten-sided" weight block, but I must have been remembering the Perfect Piece.  I remember hearing a rumor that the Perfect Piece infinged on Lane 1's patent.  I guess it wasn't just a rumor.

Are you sure the Orange Cheetah/Perfect Pieces were made by Brunswick.  The serial number/engraving look just like the same period Storm balls as well as the box logos.  They don't have the really deep engraving like the Brunswick balls.  On the other hand, the Black Cheetah has the deep engraving like a Rhino Pro or Phantom, or other ball from that period.

Either way, I still love every ball I've ever thrown by them.  I won a lot of junior tournaments with my original Cheetah, it hit like a ton of bricks.  I'd still be throwing one right now, but the only 15 lb'er I ever found cracked a few months ago, and I really don't want to punch the last one I have undrilled, especially since it's a 16.  I wish I could get my hands on a few more of their balls, especially another Kryptonite and Cheetah.  Too bad they all seem to be gone.  I guess I'll just have to keep watching eBay.
