Comparing the Motiv SX1 and TX1: Layout on both balls (4 ½ x 3 ½ ) – 29/32 Balance Hole, 2 ¼ inches deep (until I tapped the inner most core) – Hole 2 inches down VAL
The SX1 has the earliest and smoothest roll of both balls. The SX1 performed its best in box finish when the lane condition was fresh. In box finish this ball had a tendency to struggle with carry down. We then scuffed the ball with a 1000 Abralon Pad. This increased the total hook of the ball by 10 boards and allowed the ball to overcome its apparent box finish struggle with carry down.
The TX1 for me is the hidden gem. This ball does not roll as early as the SX1 but still has a nice read in the midlane and a strong continuous arc thru the pins. I bowled on a fresh house shot and then bowled on lanes that had not been stripped in 3 days. I did not expect much out of the ball on the beat-up lanes but the ball was amazing. I was able to back out the ball and play straighter. The TX1 cleared the spotty fronts and finished nicely thru the spotty backends.
A couple of other notes on the Motiv equipment: If you are looking for balls with slower oil absorption rates then these are the balls for you. Do to the slower oil absorption rate you will not get that flippy backend reaction like you do from other brands. Both balls produced about 4-5 inches of flare.
A video review is coming soon.
