Motiv SX1 reaction
« on: March 17, 2009, 08:26:35 AM »
Most of the threads about the SX1 have been about it's "urethane like" reaction on the lane, especially it's very controllable nature on the back-end.  A_P_K and I bowl with charlest on Thursday's and he brought an SX1 down about 3 weeks ago and there is nothing urethane-like and controllable that I see about that ball.  It is almost in the skid/flip category.  I know he put something on the ball (Snake Oil maybe) but the ball is very sharp on the backend.  The ball does punish the pins though.  Out of most of the equipment he's been using this year I believe the SX1 is giving him some of the best pin carry that's he had.  Great reaction downlane, definately not urethane-like from what I am seeing.  We bowl second shift on Brunswick pro-Anvilane after a plastic ball league so we have a fair amount of carrydown also.

Anyone thinking this is a weak ball downlane should reconsider because this ball is strong and really smacks the pins around.  I remember telling him last week that the carry and sound from the SX1 was reminiscent of LaneMasters stuff.

Since, I have a TX1 and an SX1 I feel qualified to answer.  All of my Visionary stuff reacts as hard or harder on the back end except for a B/G Centaur that I use from time to time.

All, I can say is from what Jeff tells me is that the houses and shifts he bowls on in NJ are drier than what we see in WI so that also might mean that there is less head oil and therefore fresher back ends.  I can only guess.  SX1 does not like carry down is it also mellows out the back.  At least that's what I am seeing but I also think the lane conditions I see in WI have more oil from what Jeff tells me.

I believe it's the question of how clean the back end in your houses are and also how it's drilled and what kind of axis rotation.

On any kind of carry down the SX1 goes in the bag or I am moving right not left with my feet to counteract.  Also, why you see most of the oil retained on the coverstock.  My Sx1 low Rg starts up early and rolls hard with a decent roll into the 1-3 butNOT a pronounced skid-flip like an SS Ogre or even an Ogre Pearl which is an arcing pearl for me.  They both have much more than my SX1.  My Gladiator Solid also an arcing ball is close to the SX1...Glad Solid a lil more than the Sx1 and is not effected by carry down as much.  SX1 @4000ab OOB and Glad Solid @2000ab OOB.  SX1 lil weaker drill.

How have others with SX1's fared to compare?

The house we bowl in on Thursday which Jeff uses the SX1 has more than it's fair share of carrydown but this ball cuts right through it.

Last Thursday I'd even venture a guess the house put more oil out to compensate for a corporate function and even still it was too strong on the back to use it.

Either that or it starts up early enough, doesn't puke, and makes the turn to really light up the pocket.

Jeff is the only person I've seen with the SX1 so far and it is a fine rolling piece.  If I didn't own more equipment than I needed I might be inclined to try one out.  In his hand the roll reminds me of how my Epic rolled for me.
