Question about 3G Shoes...
«
on:
August 10, 2016, 07:39:00 PM »
I bought a new pair of 3G Tour Ultras, and even with the soles that are purported to slide the most, they still don't slide much. Do they need to be worked in a bit, or should I seek out some other sole options?
Thanks

Use the cleated sole with the teflon cleats and you will slide a mile....I only use the cleated sole with a variety of cleats

Are you sure you aren't having issues with the heal? I did on mine and the heal required more break in than the sole, but mine are also much older (from the ABS days before Dynothane).
As for breaking in soles, I recommend breaking in ALL of your new sole pieces (and heals if you have the chance). One thing I realized early on in my replaceable sole shoes is you hate to have to change soles at a center only to realize it needs to be broken in a little bit to get the performance you are looking for.

I transitioned from Linds with the cleats to the 3G; so I continued to use the cleats and not the full soles (I had had serious trouble getting Dexter's soles to slide at all with the Dexter V/5 series; Dexter 8s were much better.).
I made my own Teflon cleats with Teflon discs cut to size, purchased from EBay and using the old cleats from Linds and 3G cleats. I just sanded the old cleats smooth or removed the old top disc material and glued the Teflon disc on.
This worked wonder because the disc was now higher than the surface of the sole. I found if the cleat on matched the surface of the sole I'd only get as little friction as the surrounding sole material, not the very low friction of my homemade Teflon disc.
I got my discs from this seller, rubbermann7,
