Solaris

Drilled out my Solaris 5 x 4 on Saturday, Which puts the pin above my middle finger and the CG in my palm. Specs are in my profile.

I used it in league tonight for the first time. It is a 41ft THS on 2yr old Pro Anvilane. It was more ball than expected. Got really good length with a hockey stick type reaction on the back end. What I was really impressed with is how low the pins went off the deck, which for me produced better carry. Also, the ball went through the carry down really well.

Had games of 247-235-267 for a 749 set. If I could have picked up a spare, it would have been even better. Missed 2 ten pins, a baby split and a 7-10. The ball really turned a lot of heads. Looking forward to using it more and seeing how it reacts with a few more games on it. So far impressed with the first piece from Kinetic Bowling. If this ball is any indication, these guys know what they are doing. Only time will tell if the ball will provide the longevity everyone is looking for.

I used my Solaris last night fresh from the proshop.

Mine is 16lb, 3" pin, 3oz of top weight.

The layout is pin stacked over the CG right of ring at about 3.75" from my PAP.

I was hoping the layout choice would be stronger than what I already have on my Break pearl to justify owning both balls.  Needless to say that worked out.  The comparison isn't fair because the Solaris and Break pearl have different layouts.  I can't comment on whether or not they'd react the same or different otherwise.

Even though the cover is the same the ball does not roll the same.  For me with this layout the ball is earlier than the Break pearl and makes a sharp backend move.  It gets decent length through worn heads and makes quite a vicious continuous strong arc to the pocket.  It's not as flippy as the Break pearl.  The change of direction and reaction to friction is a little quicker with the Solaris as opposed to the Break pearl.  It will need head oil, it's a little strong for drier heads.  For me it generates more power at the pins than most equipment I throw.  Pin carry is good unless I throw a be-line to the pocket, but it doesn't keep the pins low at all.  I have not had as many missile messengers even if I didn't need them as I had with the Solaris.

I am looking forward to using the Solaris on some oil.  I posted games of 258, 249, and then gave away the pocket because I was too stubborn to use a weaker ball.

I have not had a ball with these characteristics yet so the change is welcomed.

How does it compare with some of your other balls?

It gets the same amount of length as my Twisted Fury Destruction(drilled 5 x 4 1/2) but a more angular move off the dry. The Solaris gets much more lenght than my Pearl Cobalt Bomb(label drill), but this would be an unfair comparison as it is not drilled the same.

Hope this helps.   Kevin

tossed mine last night, 716 with a couple splits, ball just has more backend recovery than any pearl I've thrown lately or seen, really turn the heads with it last night, on top of the ball motion it is just flat out a great looking ball.

Have mine at box with a 4-1/4 x 3-1/4, with a x-hole at P4, backend motion is like it gets kicked sideways at 45 ft.

mainzer, it's deffinetly worth it. Great ball, great reaction, awesome backend! But if you don't want another pearl than that's cool, it's your choice. But if you ever want another pearl, look into getting one of these, you'll love it.
