The drill sheet "controversy"
« on: September 28, 2007, 04:10:46 AM »
Just to put it out here as a new topic so that people don't have to sort through the other stuff:

Okay, JLS faxed me the drill sheet and I've scanned it to a PDF - also a jpg of the page with the "questionable" info.

And here is the sheet he sent me from Track for asymetricals:

Not taking sides with anybody, only providing the scanning and hosting features so that everybody can see the information and make their own decision on the matter.

what is all of this hate and discontent about????? If you understand what and where the MB is, what is the problem, if it is that big a deal pick up the phone and call the Mfger for clairification. I've drilled several and guess what the drillings act just as they did 2 weeks ago, 2 months ago and 2 years ago, go figure. I guess I've done something wrong.

steve,  i agree with you 100%, we have drilled about 6 of these so far.  and no problem with where we place the mb.  we got the desired ball reaction.

but as realbowler posted,  in one thread phil said one thing,  and the drill sheet leads people to believe another thing.

as revtrex pointed out,  the pictures are illustrations,  and not every ball will end up looking like that.

i am sure you, as a good ball driller, knows the importance of reading a drill sheet.  especially on a new model,  and especially if you did not attend a seminar.   a few days ago, we received info on the seminar for the rising.

i seriously doublt that these good ball drillers, can drill this ball properly without attending a seminar,  or at least reading the drill sheet. thats why ball companies have seminars and have drill sheets.

i am sure you know, that on the no mercy drill sheet,  it clearly says,  do not use normal a-sym. drillings on this ball.

now i wonder,  how can a good ball driller, who does not read drill sheets or did not attend a seminar,  know that the hart is not the actual mb on this ball.

all i was doing,  since i am not to proud to ask a question,  was making sure.

unlike some of the others,  who feel that they know everything.

and yes,  like revtrex pointed out,  its about the numbers.  not pictures.

now in closing,  the break is an excellent ball, from an excellent company.

The only thing I can think of is this:

MB shouldn't be placed based on where it is in relation to the thumb. It should be "x inches from PAP at x drilling angle." That being said, perhaps the A drilling is more along of the lines of that "x distance" that would create a stronger motion...other than that possibility, I don't really know. I can certainly see where the confusion might occur.

Hopefully, Phil or Eric will be able to put this to rest.

notice what revtrex posted.

"i can certainly see where the confusion might occur"

I guess I will find out later tonight or this weekend.

Just drilled up my Break with drilling #3 - 4 1/2 x 6.  Had a 3-3 1/4" pin and put it 3 1/2" above my mid-line.  900 ended up directly below my thumb.  Hoping for something angular - not because I need it, but I don't really have anything that jumps right now.

Well, threw the ball for 3 games tonight.  I wouldn't exactly call the reaction "angular" or "jumpy."  I did get a nice smooth and predictable arc.

I won't go as far as to blame the drilling - I really don't think my style is well suited for snappy or angular reactions.  Axis tilt of 16.5* and rotation is probably somewhere around 30*.

I'm happy with the ball, reaction, and the way it reads the lane.

Going into the night with a 158 avg (after 9 games), I was able to throw 184, 151 (missed 4 spares!), and 212 (with 2 opens!).  Played the first 2 games throwing 12 to 5, and last game was 17 to 5 <--- probably should've played that line to begin with!

Take that info for what it's worth.  This ball will be the first out of the bag.
