Lanehawk
« on: September 06, 2006, 12:05:16 AM »
Back in march or April, i bought a lanehawk american eagle to use as a spare ball. Mind you I have used this ball non-stop all summer as i bowl year round. I recntly cracked it between the fingers. About a half inch deep groove goes between my fingers, then fans to the surace as the crack spread away from my fingers. Should i just replace the ball with another spare ball, or is there a way to fix this without ruining the look of the ball?

hi mv,

yes, it is repairable, but it will alter the "look" of the ball.
unfortunately, even clear plugging it will leave the "outer lines"
of where the repair work was done.

in my shop, most of my customers have opted to have the ball repaired,
rather than purchase a new ball.

i hope this helps.

im probably going to just find a way to contact the company because the ball is less than 5 mths old and i dont think it is supposed to crack that soon.

If the bridge cracked (which I am assuming that is what you are refering to when you say between the fingers) they may not replace it.  If I recall correctly the ball has to have 1 inch between the fingers or in voids the warranty.  Anyways good luck

in order to have an inch you have to be like missing a finger and use your index and ring finger as bowling fingers... who knows

mv,

yes, you are correct in your assumption that a person would have to be
missing a middle finger(unless specifically requested)for the bridge to
be one inch wide.  i have two customers that are missing their middle
fingers due to a job related accident.  one bridge is 1" wide and
the other is 1 1/8".  most manufacturers require a minimum of 1/4" bridge
in order for the warranty to be valid.

i do agree, if the ball was drilled "correctly", specifically bridge width
and pitches, then the ball SHOULD last longer than five months.

i don't know if anyone else has experienced this, but it seems that clear
balls have a greater tendency to crack versus other plastic balls.  i've
wonder if it has something to do with the lack of color pigment or filler
that actually affects the balls composite and construction.

my guess is that becuz there is no actual coverstock, it changes the consistancy of the ball and its durability. im thinking going vis-a-ball... but im stuck between the spiral, moon, and freedom
