The New Moxy Exothermic Bowling Ball
« on: May 17, 2015, 09:47:53 AM »
Moxy Bowling has introduced their first High Performance Bowling Ball, Exothermic. This is becoming one of the most versatile bowling balls on the market and the reviews from bowlers has been very good.

Saw the ad on Bowler's Store and it confuses me.
Moxy is trying to enter the market with their first premium performance (and priced) ball; yet they chose to limit production to 600 balls.

If you're trying to generate sales, why limit the amount of product you have to sell?

If it sold out fast, people might say that it was a good product that customers wanted; but when they see that the manufacturer intentionally limited production, I think they might think twice about buying any Moxy product.

So, I remain confused.

Charlest,

Thank you for the comment/inquiry. There are many reasons for a limited initial run. Our Moxy brand has been on the market with bags, apparel and accessories for over 2 years now with the plan to launch performance bowling balls.

1. Entering into an already saturated bowling ball market is risky and is a large investment.

2. Performance bowling balls need to be made in quantities of a minimum of 500 balls.

3. To launch a new brand and make 5,000 bowling balls at once is not good business. We  always have the option to make more, however, with this 1st release, our plan is just the initial run.

4. For launching this ball the end of March, it has done very well in the market for being a brand new ball brand on the market.

5. We have built our business literally from the ground up and have made some very careful decisions on many things over the years. (and this was no exception)

I remember where Motiv started 5 years or so ago. The releases were extremely limited as the company was very new and trying to break into the market.

Thanks again and I hope that help.

Thanks for the clarification, Doug.
It does make business sense to "test the waters" in this manner. I asked because from the statement on the Exothermic's web page I got the feeling that you were making only 500 to insure a limited quantity. I had heard that 500 was the magic number that almost every manufacturer requires for a run of one ball.

Good luck.

Doesn't everyone think they can do it better than the other guy?

The obstacle that can't be overcome is the big companies give away more balls than the small companies make.

It's a shrinking market...and it's over saturated....not sure where logic is in that equation

That is what is great about the free enterprise system in the USA. Most people will not take a chance, but some will. There is plenty of room for others. It does not mean others will get as big as the established brands.

Thought I'd share this here for those who were excited!  We were pleasantly surprised at the performance out of their first "Benchmark" ball.
