Thats what I thought.. I thought they made a contract extension to keep it at Carolier for a couple more years. Somehow they must of gotten out of it.

PBA announced that quite a while ago. They'll save tons of money not having to move from location to location for most of the first half of the season. I do not agree with having the pros bowl so many tournaments in a row without longer breaks though. I'm not real keen on having the tournament in one house and surface... then wait 3 months move 1000 miles and have the TV finals in another house and surface.
But I guess when you are bleeding money.
I thought they had a contract with Wichita to hold the PBA world championship there for 3 years, this would have been the second year.
I wondered how that got broken and moved to Michigan. Maybe the TV final was a bone thrown to Wichita.

It looks like they are gonna bowl one televised tournament and then take their winter break and not come back until January. I would think that during this break they show at least a few of the tournaments bowled in August...but I could be completely wrong.
Anyone else think think this schedule looks like stupid?

First thing I see wrong if your a bowler with a nagging injury during the month of August, half of your season is lost because 7 tourneys are that month.
Second is that if you make the finals on Sept 4th for the PBA world championship, you'll have to wait until Dec 13th to bowl in the TV finals. A lot can happen with injuries in those 3 months especially with so many games of bowling for the exempt players.

Yes, totally agree with you. What I'm wondering is what are the players going to do with this setup? Since the tournaments run in a row at the same house will they just stay there most of the time or keep having to drive or fly to the same house.
The other thing that I really don't understand is who does it benefit for the fans having all these tournaments taped delayed. Doesn't the PBA understand that we HATE THAT! We are going to know the winner first of all and it doesn't make the tournaments special following them just to have to wait weeks down the road to have it tape delayed. And what is with the World Championship having the finals December 13th which at least that is live but does anyone realize that the match play part of the tournament ends September 6??!! Ya, let's have a long, prestigious major then remind that the bowlers that are in the finals "don't forget to fly all the way out to our bowling center two months from now!"
If the PBA was going to do this brainiac idea having 7 something tournaments in one city why not just have them LIVE! Yes, we would not have bowling from Sept 5 to sometime in December but at least they would be live! So what if it wouldn't follow the true "pba season". Whatever that is anyways. I missed the PBA tour year tournaments pre 2001 anyways.
The other idea and this makes more sense if the PBA was going to have mass tournaments in one city, why not just have them at the END of the PBA season. Then it wouldn't interfere with the season and you could have live tournaments.

The players are going to save a ton of money by not having to move from city to city. I think they like the idea in that respect.

The fans hate it already. Also, I think the attendence for all of those Thunderbowl lane dates are going to suffer. How much PBA interest can one city support in such a short time.

I suspect they would move it to Council Bluffs...whatever center that is since they have had a PBA tournament there before. But if they don't want it I talked to an employee at Irving. TX and they would love to have another PBA tournament. That is if the PBA players are up for the challenge again.

I think the PBA has an opportunity to right a very big wrong here. Keep the multiple tournaments in Michigan. Work out a deal with Espn to get these tournaments to have the finals live and extend the rest of the season to December with more tour dates.
Cause what you have here with this idea is this season is nothing but one big cluster----!

Taping all the shows in the short time frame is the primary way they save money -- it costs tens of thousands of dollars to take down and move and put back up the ESPN stage every week.
You guys gotta look at the big picture and it's all about $$$$$$
Also, PBA does see a lot of benefits to the WSOB -- execs statements have been widely reported so I won't repeat them.

I know they need to do something, but they don't have to tape delay them, and believe me they are hurt when something is tape delayed. Viewership takes a nose dive.
They can show them live still, and like I said, if someone is just a bit off their game at that moment, or they have a minor injury that may be difficult to bowl with their season is shot, and so might be an exepmtion for the next year. You are dealing with someone's livelyhood. They need to provide for their families. Not like they make $10 mil a year and it won't matter.
It is still Mickey Mouse. If you want to be treated as a real professional sport, then you must conduct business as a real professional sport. Imagine golf or tennis did this?
If they can't afford to run a true pro sport then they need to look at other ways to fix it.
How about move the tour scheduled to after Football season? Then the 1pm slot on ESPN wouldn't hurt so much. Or they could even get a contract with another network that might pay to carry them during this dead sports time.

I didn't say smaller network, I said another network. You can put it on Saturday or Sunday in the afternoon if you start the season after the Football season is over.
Heck, move it back to saturday after college football is over and put it on ABC or CBS, or NBC.
WHy does the season have to start in Sept/Oct? Start it in December when most of the college football is over, or keep it on Sundays on ESPN, but start the season after the playoffs in Feb. That way it isn't competeing against the NFL or college football.
