You can't fault anyone for trying to keep a mental edge and win. Just like in the NFL, you don't see Ray Lewis, Warren Sapp, etc.. acting the same off of the field as they do "when the lights come on and the whistle blows." Athletes have to get pumped up and adrenaline will win championships when nerves will lose them. That's a competitor's edge. I bowl in many tournaments in the Dallas, Texas area as I reside about 60 miles outsie of the metroplex. I have bowled in numerous tournaments and/or high stakes pot games with Chris Johnson involved. He is another one of those guys that is a pleasure to talk to off of the lanes, but when the shoes are laced up, he is mentally tough. That has helped him already this year in his rookie season on tour. As for the strength of ball CJ needs? I have seen him throwing a plastic ball over the gutter caps around 35 and flaring to 10 with no problem, when oher bowlers were still in solid or pearl resin up 15-20. The kid very seldomly will need as strong a ball as he was using this week.(Deuce) In closing, all I can say is try putting on the shoes and having to bowl for $40,000-$100,000 week in and week out for a living and see just how fierce a competitor you become. You can either be the hunter, or the hunted. Adrenaline and control will beat out nerves everytime.
