2008 Tour Trials: Dave D'Entremont - Double "D"
« on: May 31, 2008, 10:15:20 AM »
I know he's not the best and I know he had some drinking problems, but I like his grit and determination. He's no kid anymore, but he's doing his damndest at thing he does the best: bowling.

So I'm rooting for Dave D'Entremont to qualify for the 2008/9 season. He's done well through the first 4 patterns, amazing well, keeping up with the "kids" and the young lions. He is far from being a young lion, but as a movie script once said, "He's got grit!"

He's the original "Big Nasty".

Only when you're considered old (like me) do you find some satisfaction from another geezer hangin' with the pups.

So, does that mean you're old, Jeff?

I am also a big man, 6'4" 225, and I only wish I could throw it like D'Entremont.  When I need speed and revs I try to channel that armswing in my head.  A major winner and six-time titlelist certainly deserves exemption.

I've bowled with DD before.  I was in a practice session for a regional tournament.  I wasn't really paying attention to the guys bowling beside me.  I went to dry my hand and ended up bumping someone else's hand.  I turned to apologize and saw that it was Dave.  Immediately all those times I sat on my couch as a teenager and watched him on ABC came to mind.  It was pretty surreal.

I'm rooting for him to earn an exemption.  He's still in 3rd place with 5 games to go.  He got out of the gate a little slow this morning, but he's figured the pattern out a bit in games 3-4.

Go DD!

Unless he gashes his leg again ... he is looking very good with 3 games to go - 2nd place right now.

I feel sorry for Tim Mack. He worked hard and bowled great. Starting this morning, he was in 8th place, 18 pins out of 7th place, last to qualify. Then something really bad must have happened - he shot 170 and 132 in his first 2 games on the Cheetah pattern. He's all but out of it now, with only 3 games to go. I bet he hurt himself somehow. That's the only I can think for scores that low.
