with the season half way over there will be some discussion starting about who will win the 2006-2007 pba player of the year award. while there are several worthy competitors norm duke is the only player with 2 titles. who will win it and why ?
-
I think it breaks down like this so far.
1. Duke
2. Kent
3. Malott
4. Jones
5. Weber
The bottom 3 could be flipped all around but the top 2 I believe are clear right now.

You can't measure the POY soley on titles. Yes that is a big part of it but if let's say Tommy Jones won 4 straight and hardly showed up for match play the rest of the year it would be hard to argue he would be a top candidate. Norm Duke is only mildy in front now due to the two titles, but he has been very consistant all year. I think Tommy Jones, Wes Mallot and Doug Kent are still up there. Weber and Williams also are somewhat up there as well.
This year until Duke won today has been strange because there has been no front runner this year. I think because of the ridiculously high scoring this year is the reason of this. If the scoring was a little more under control, there would be a definite front runner with mabey one or two guys behind, not 8 players like now.
I predicted that Tommy Jones would repeat as POY and still stand by that. He's been pretty consistant but I thought he would have made 1 or 2 more shows and have at least 2 titles by now. Next half will have 3 majors and getting an appearance at a major is nearly as good as winning a regular tour stop. Winning a major is like counting as 2 regular stops. Again though, the consistancy matters. I thought Norm Duke was very close to winning the POY last year even though he only won 1 title it was the number of shows he made and the consistancy making match play. That is why Jones won last year and of course the 4 titles w/ the major win.

The smart money is on Duke right now. A few wins and PB3 would easily be in the mix. Another for Weber, or a couple more shows, and he'd have a shot. I don't see Scroggins making it, in spite of his making the show.

delutz could make a push.
with the exception of the 22nd place in his first event, hes placed 9th or better in the other 5 events hes bowled.
The guy is on fire. Just a few more weeks of this good bowling and he could definitely be a contender.
Thing about PoY is that there are 3 majors all clumped together at the end. Its really about whos hot during the homestretch. Thats usually when Walter wakes up too. however I also wouldn't be surprised if they opened up the leftside a bit as no lefties have won yet...parker could maybe contend! hes already made a couple shows!

Duke by a mile. The prize money results doesn't show who really has dominated since they cut prize money off during the season. That is why it shows that Doug Kent made like $125,000 this year - the only player with 6 figure income in bowling for the year. I would like to see Tommy Delutz come back in the spring and win 2 titles. He would definately deserve it then since he has been injured for 2 years. I wish he still squeeked when he approached the line like in the old days. Maybe he will in 2007!

From what I see out there. I would vote for Doug Kent at this point.

Etonic and Vise. The best arsenal, PERIOD!!!!
-
There are 3 Majors to go, so I think it is impossible to say anyone should win this early in the season.

Too early to say, but if it were right now I would say DUKE.

That says alot coming from an everyday perspective Chris. He has definately stepped it up this year. I would at least give him Comeback Player of the Year since he almost completely fell off of the radar and redefined his game recently. His matchup woth Hammer equipment has been good also.

I agree it's Doug Kent and Norm Duke out front right now, maybe Wes Malott has a shot, everyone else would need to turn it up for the rest of the season....I believe it's still plenty of time for someone to burst outta nowhere and run 'em over!!

I agree with the names on you list but even though Norm won 2 titles his has had struggles in qualifying and the block this year and the last win didnt have WRW or PW in it.... you also cant for get about Mike Scroggins. He has been a factor week in and week out even thouh he fails under the lights.... so I would re arrange the order...
1. Malott
2. Duke
3. Kent
4. Weber
4a. Scroggins
5. Jones

Duke will win when the year is over. He'll probaly make 5 or 6 more shows the second half. He's pretty unstobbable on any pattern.

Experience, Shot Making, Wise Decisions......The best arsenal.

If I were to vote right now, my vote is for Norm Duke. But with 3 majors left, much is still left to be decided.
-
Wes. 1st in points, only bowler so far to make every round of 32, most tv appearances, title, 2nd in average, and 6th in money. I can't wait to see him completely dominate the 2nd half of the season.

Duke is the early favorite, but it's just too early to say.
Also, you can never count out WRW. How many times, in the past few years, has he had a terrible first half, followed by a terrific second half? When he gets on a roll, there's no telling how many shows he might make.
And his first half this year was pretty good!
