the pba has announced the 2008-2009 national tour schedule with 20 stops including 14 from last year. the women's series returns as well. for all the info go to www.pba.com

Pitiful, pitiful, pitiful.
The South is totally locked out this year. I realize houses have to pony up the dough but something's got to be done here. The South is the fastest-growing area of the country at the moment but I guess we don't matter. Nearest tournament is at least 12-14 hours from my house.
I try really hard to be positive about the PBA and be a good fan but there's no excuse for this.

i have to agree with you, Jess. as a resident in Texas, i was very excited about attending an event this year.
BLAM!
woah, did you guys just hear that? it sounded like someone's hopes just got shot!

LOL likewise. Can't believe they axed us!
-
this obviously has to do with $$$. From the players' perspective, it looks like they tried to keep the travel down. since there are not many seats, spectators are not the issue, tv money is, and PBA just does not get the ratings.
Having said that, I can't believe the tour does not come to Florida with all of the Florida bowlers. I wonder what the players think?

Just bowl!

3 Events in Nevada in about a 6 week period?
PBA headquarters in Texas, but no events there (or anywhere remotely close)?
Florida shut out of any hosting gigs?
Lesson: Money talks. I guess some of the southern facilities should have ponied up to host a tournament.
Still, I'm not sure that the PBA is doing an adequate job of targeting certain markets and regions. You'd think that Florida would be especially desirable as the USBC tournament is going to be there every three years.
Oh well, at least I have a choice of 2 venues within a 2 hour drive (Taylor, Mi. and Columbus, Ohio) that will be hosting events. I'll consider myself lucky.

I wonder if I should enter the US Open this year.
I'm glad to see that the Women's series is back. I hope it starts to grow and help progress the PBA as a whole.

I was all set to go to Birmingham last year when I found out it wasn't on the schedule. The stop in South Carolina was the closest for me and that's many hours away. I would drive two or three hours but I can't do 8+, even if I've got someone to go with me.
There's at least one very disappointed fan here in North Missississippi.

It may be the fastest growing, but there are still more people, and bowlers in the Northeast, and the West. They are targeting where most of their bowlers are.
That said, I am shocked that Texas doesn't have a stop at all this year, and Nevada has 3. SC had a lot of empty seats that I saw on TV. Maybe they weren't getting the support there.

WTF PBA. How could you not have a stop in Dallas/Fort Worth AGAIN....and not even in Texas?? What are they doing? Too scared to come back to Irving because the tour players stuggled too much on that tough wood lane house? Sucks that everyone can't hit 230 every game doesn't it! Boo Hoo. They seriously need more stops. I guess I will have to drive to Denver to see a tour stop
I'm sick of fuu-fuu places like Medford and Vernon Hills getting stops every season also. If you can't stop in Texas, at least go back to Erie. No, Erie is no where close to Dallas/Fort Worth but deserves a stop every year.
Columbus OH at that crappy Sequoia Pro Bowl? That place has like 30 lanes and uses Gardian...YUCK. It's not fit to host a PBA event. That's ridiculous they went there last year and they are coming bacK? I will agree with the rest of those places though they could have at least concidered leaving New Jersey. Seriously, we in Dallas/Fort Worth equally have a few alleys that would be more then capable of hosting the US Open.

I didn't see Grand Rapids on the schedule. The stop there has been around for years...........

Just to let you know, Sequoia Pro Bowl now has Brunswick Pro-Lane installed on all 32 lanes.
Not fit to host a PBA event? I guess that's why it had the 2nd largest non-major attendance of any event all year.
Also, the PBA guys can hit 230 on any surface if the oil conditions are right. Scores are not the point. Also, whats up with your contradiction in saying that they aren't coming back to Texas because they are "too scared to bowl in a tough wood lane house", but then reminding us that they bowled on "Gardian...YUCK"?
Next time, better check your facts before you find a foot in your mouth.
With people like you there, it's no wonder they wouldn't go back to your hometown.

There should be a rule that no center under 50 lanes should be allowed to host a tournament. They could have gone to the Palace. It was embarrassing to look at that God awful place on TV. If the management doesn't want the tour there then they should go elsewhere.
-
Brunswick Zone Carolier is the best place for the US Open.
The house is absolutely gorgeous, and extremely extremely well kept. I was there for a few JBTs. Plus it has 2 levels and I think 80 Lanes total. Its the perfect spot for the biggest tournament of the year.
-
Yes it is, i went for a JBT also and its 82 lanes with two sections. It is such a nice place.

Im so glad people are brainwashed to thinking that if they buy a new ball they will carry everything. And its even funnier when im carrying with my 15 year old ball and they're going flat ten.
-
Carolier is amazing. I bowl there probably once a month to practice. It's a gorgeous place with pretty bouncy pins. And 82 or 84 lanes is a nice sized house too

I went to the US Open last year to watch the madness during match-play...talk about a blast.

Ahh Brian. Your posts when you are mad are always good for entertainment since logic tends to go right out the window.
You do realize tha the PBA does not have centers all over the country beating down their doors to run a tournament, right? And that the house takes a beating for the week of the tournament with lost open play and league revenue along with the fee they pay the PBA, right? If the centers do things right, they can make up some of it but they certainly aren't profiting by running them. And the PBA certainly isn't going to beg someone to host a tournament. I'm not sure why they aren't stopping in the south more or whatnot. But I bet in some cases it's because the centers didn't want to pony up the money, time, and effort anymore.
Couple other things. Your little "fu fu" Medford stop is only one of if not the best stop on the entire tour. The house does it right and makes the bowlers happy and the town supports them. So we're not Dallas in size but who cares when the house is packed the entire week.
I'd like to see how your 50 lane minimum rule works out too. You might have a 10 stop tour at the most.
-
Medford is one of the best stops. But give some other places a chance.
